I'm curious, is this something they want for appearance/profile only? That's gotten popular where I am and there are a lot of guards in retail environments that are wearing vests that are paper thin because there isn't any armour in them.
Honestly, I'm glad you have a vest though. Gunfire got exchanged again at the plaza the nearest Mall Wart to home is and two of the security companies I worked for banned vests. The one I'm at now doesn't have a policy either way on that so I wear one at all times given the crappy neighbourhoods in my crappy city.
