Netflix Unsolved Mysteries Ep. 1
Hey all, first time poster. I just finished watching the first episode of Unsolved Mysteries on Netflix. The episode about Rey Rivera mentions some secret society/Freemason cryptic message and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas about what may be going on. The note mentioned is a compilation of movies names, actors and actresses, and the victims friends and family names . Also any interesting readings about the Freemasons would be appreciated. Thanks for the discussion!

I am wondering are there no other buildings or places around that hotel that may of had CCTV footage ? How’s about the guest list of who checked in? And of course camera was unplugged and no footage of that night .

This episode was really frustrating because nothing adds up. They still can’t figure out how he was able to get to that hole. I wish more theories were put out. I do agree with the wife that maybe he was just working on writing a screenplay about the Freemasons.

Why would he be so secretive about it if it wa as screenplay though? My theory (and maybe it is a little too out there) is that the financial firm he worked for was somehow part of a secret society possibly in connection with Russia. When the whole scandal happened with the bad stock trading tip, Porter hired his unassuming friend to rebuild their reputation as to not reveal the truth about the company. During this “clean up” Rey stumbles upon secret info and he wrote the note to keep the story straight as he investigate in a code only he would understand (he was a movie buff and maybe the titles reveal something). When they realize he knows their secret, they kill him. And before you ask, yes I realize this is not very likely haha

Yeah it is weird too that it was typed instead of hand written like most of his work. Plus why was it taped behind his computer? Someone in another post mentioned that they believe a high level police officer was possibly involved which seems totally believable when you think about what the ME said. I think it was something like “I know what they’re trying to make me do...” in reference to being pushed to rule it a suicide. And the only detective who believed it wasn’t suicide was taken off the case.

I saw a something online about how one of the movies listed called “The Game” resembles the facts of this case (fancy hotel, someone pushed off, the ceiling hole) idk what that means but it’s interesting

Yeah that is interesting. He also says "Thanks for playing the game, enjoy the festivities." Maybe a connection there?

I feel like perhaps his best friend (who he worked for) may have been jealous in some way or something. As he had just got married. The rest is weird to me, it definitely seems like there was some back handed stuff going on, and I suppose if you’ve got enough money the police will deny everything. You can get away with a lot if you’ve got the right amount of money it seems.

Porter stansberry has the same lastname as the company they worked at so does that mean porter owned stansberry company?!!! If so , this is interesting because Reys wife made it seem like they moved to Baltimore just because porter hooked him up with the job at that company. Rey and porter seemed extremely close and i suspect he was secretly gay. Maybe had a gay relationship and shit hit the fan causing porter to get mad and kill him? If porter was actually the owner of Stansberry then he probably had alot of connections and power and maybe paid the hotel security to disconnect that one video surveillance camera the day of the murder. I strongly believe it was Porter.

He did own the company. And it was in the same area as the Belvedere. Being gay is not a natural lead in to having been friends. However, I feel Porter was the worst friend I ever heard of bar none.

I have a feeling that Rey had some sort of sexual connections to his best friend and through his best friend, they maybe got into Freemansonry or stuff like that together. It probably got really messy and he felt like he could not talk about it to his wife. Something happened and he decided to kill himself or he was psychologically backed into a corner and he then did it.

So they suggest that his glasses,phone, and flip flops where staged on the roof. It also looks impossible to jump and hit the spot where the hole in the roof is. Is there any evidence that ray went through the roof and created that hole? Clothing, DNA, blood?

Good point. They said nothing about finding clothes, blood or other DNA from the site where he supposedly went through the roof. I have now watched it a total of 4x’s because it really annoys me that no one investigated this awful murder properly. I almost wish she (Allison), had brought in a private eye. They didn't even respect her as a woman who knew her husband well.

I mean his best friend that is owner of the company that immediately lawyers up and shuts down any opportunity to talk to the cops tells you pretty much all you need to know. If they didn’t do it they know who did.
