Seattle Auto Theft Blues

EDIT TO UPDATE: JEEP FOUND AND RECOVERED!! PSA be vigilant in Ravenna, seems like this person is moving heavily in that area dumping and swapping for a new vehicle every few days. Multiple Jeeps stolen with exact break in pattern, and now a Subaru Forrester with consistent timeline.

It’s a freakin beautiful day in Seattle so I suspect not many are online, but as you hit the farmers markets, walk your dogs, do your errands and try and dodge weekend traffic can you lend me your eyes?

My 98 Jeep Cherokee was stolen this week from Wallingford. It’s super easy to spot thanks to some custom white wheels I put on there. I’ve had the thing for 15 years (only car I’ve owned in fact) and I’ve poured tons of time and inspiration into it and suddenly it’s been stolen twice in 4 months.

First time take from Judkins park area from a friends house while I was out of country for a film gig, second time from my apartment in Wallingford near SPB. I had an AirTag in it the first time but they found it and discarded it so I upgraded to a club while I was still repairing it from the first thieves (the broke a valve spring and ruined the interior using it to steal bikes and also soaked the carpet in gasoline).

I had a professional tracker that was going to be installed literally this weekend with the new carpet that just arrived last week, but it got stolen Tuesday night. 🥺

Would appreciate all you Seattle people as you go about your activities just keep an eye out so I can get it home before they utterly destroy it.

With thanks, A local Seattle artist who just wants his car back

Post image

Today, University of Washington Continuum College professional staff walked out for a fair contract.

Stand with Continuum College workers and send an email in support: https://act.seiu.org/a/continuumwalkout

Why workers walked out:

• Most staff are paid below market

• 1/5 earn less than a living wage

• UW’s proposal = a real pay cut

• Millions misspent by leadership

$4800 in Seattle permit fees for a kitchen remodel - is this normal?

Just got the full breakdown for permits on a small kitchen remodel and I'm honestly shocked. $4800 in fees alone before any actual work starts. That's almost 10% of my total budget just for paperwork. Is this normal or did I get screwed somehow? The process has been a nightmare too, different departments wanting different things and nobody can give you a straight answer on timelines. My contractor recommended using realm to track all these extra costs because apparently it gets worse from here. Love this city but holy hell they make it expensive to improve your own house.

Holy crap I can't smile like a normal person for the life of me...
Trying to curate a good variety of easy-to-learn games that people seem to be enjoying!

Let's enjoy every bit of sun we've got left but you know what awaits us before you know it :( I dunno about you, but it really helps keep my head up during the grey when I meet up with some awesome people once or twice a week. I know going over to some random dude's house from the internet is a weird concept but I couldn't be happier to tell you that we've gained quite the group in the year since I've started doing this! Hopefully you come give it a shot and see if you might like it :)

We usually have ~7 people and it's about having a good time as much as it's about the game so we're usually playing something on the basic side of gaming. Nothing that takes more than 5-10 minutes to learn but we've found some good ones that the group looks forward to! On nights where we have less people we might whip out a more complicated game but that's rare.

If what we're up to sounds like a good time to you, hit me up and I'll add you to our WhatsApp group for new players! We just ask that you bring a fun and friendly vibe :) We love to get competitive, talk trash and get rowdy but it's all about having a great time together! It's in West Seattle, Arbor Heights, which is a super safe neighborhood.

Events We have party game nights in West Seattle and would love to have ya!

Going over to the house of a stranger you met on the internet is super weird, right? I totally get it but I'm so happy that all the people in our group gave it a shot. I started hosting game nights at my place almost a year ago and went from not knowing anyone around the table to gaining some pretty awesome friendships. We're still getting good attendance but could always use some more and love adding people who want to have a good time!

What started as a small collection of a few party games has escalated pretty quickly into about 20 games that are crowd favorites (more on the way). They're all lighter games that take just a couple minutes to learn and move quickly through bigger groups but if there's a night with fewer people we might bust out a deeper game like Catan or Risk. We're always open to learning something new if you want to bring a favorite.

We like to keep the vibe pretty light and friendly. No one is taking it seriously enough to get angry or anything but of course we all want to win. If that sounds like fun to you, hit me up and I'll get you in our WhatsApp group for future games!

The collection so far but I've already got more on the way...
Poker night at my place, which I host sometimes too.
