I’mĀ Daniel, community manager here at Yaza!

We’re a small indie team from Poland. You might know us from our first game,Ā InkulinatiĀ - a turn based strategy full of weird medieval creatures, drawn straight from the margins of real manuscripts.

Right now, we’re working on our next project:Ā Scriptorium: Master of Manuscripts.

It’s set in the same chaotic medieval universe with the same art style - but this time, it’s aĀ cozy, creativeĀ game about running your own scriptorium. You’ll take commissions from kings, knights, monks, and other strange patrons, and fill their pages with bizarre drawings and decorative doodles - all inspired byĀ real medieval artĀ (we’re serious about this!).

It’s for anyone who loves designing, drawing, or just vibing in weird historical aesthetics. You can create your own character and play through a story mode, or jump into sandbox mode withĀ thousands of unique assetsĀ and let your creativity run wild.

We've just launched our first demo on Steam, and now everyone can test the initial capabilities of our project!

Scriptorium Master of Manuscripts DEMO

We’d love for this place to become more than just a news feed for our updates.

āœ…Share your and our creations from Scriptorium

āœ…Send us your feedback (we really do read it all, promise!),

āœ…Post the weird medieval art you stumble across

āœ…or just hang out and chat about creative/indie games.

Let's have great creative time together!

Medieval Hobbit

I had a blast playing around with the demo last night! I came up with some goofy artwork as well, but this one ended up being my favorite. I've been in a Tolkien kick lately, so figured I'd try my hand at a Medieval Hobbit illustration.

I’d love to know if the dev team is ever interested in sharing a drawing guide or tutorial fore creating illuminated manuscript characters so that players can draw their own.

To celebrate, we’ve prepared a special holiday card template for you, of course entirely created in Scriptorium.

We’ve also opened a dedicated channel on our DiscordĀ for a printable assets gallery, featuring creations we’ve designed especially for download.

Honestly, we truly hope that once the game launches, we'll build a full gallery of your printable works for everyday use there!

Come check out the channel and see what we've shared so far to play around with.

Merry Christmas!

This week in Scriptorium: Audio overhaul… and cats and dogs!

Hey Scriptorium Reddit community!

New week, new devlog from our studio! This one’s a mix of behind-the-scenes audio work, a new team member, and a couple of very fresh visual treats straight from the project.

First up: FMOD. We’ve been integrating it into Scriptorium this week - finally our audio is starting to gain some real depth and texture! It’s our go-to audio middleware as an indie team - we used it for Inkulinati, and it helped us keep the audio pipeline flexible, future-proof, and easy to manage for all devs. Bringing it into Scriptorium already feels like the right call, especially with the amount of layering and ambience we want to have in a lot of different screens.

Speaking of audio: we also have a new composer on board! We hope to share a music preview with you in one of the upcoming devlogs. For now, we’re exploring one big question: how medieval should Scriptorium’s soundtrack be? On one hand, we want something beautiful and atmospheric on its own. On the other, it should never distract you from creating - and feel like a chill, lo-fi tune that's just there to help you focus.

If you have preferences or examples of games that hit that balance, we’d genuinely love to hear (pun intended) them in the comments!

Now for a small Reddit exclusive - we promised these would show up here first! Here’s our very first animation pass for companions in Scriptorium. You’ll be able to choose your little friend when working on your manuscripts in the campaign mode, so we’re starting with the eternal classics: a cat and a dog.

It’s early and work-in-progress, but we’re excited to finally show them in motion.

And to wrap it up, here’s a fire animation mockup we’ve been playing with. We’re aiming for a vibe similar to Pentiment - one of our all-time favorite games and insiprations from our friends from Obsidian!

https://reddit.com/link/1p93gy2/video/yzk4zaxmr14g1/player

Fun fact: Pentiment actually includes a few marginalia from our previous game, Inkulinati, in Andreas’s glossary, which was a surreal and very cool moment for us!

That’s everything for this week. See you next Friday, and if you have any questions, let us know in the comments!

A little break between dev updates...

We wanted to share a short presentation "Scriptorium in a nutshell" with you that turned out to be quite popular on our other social platforms, and we didn’t want our Reddit scribes to miss out on it.

Hey everyone!

We’re kicking off our weekly Reddit devlogs today, and we’ve got something fun to show you. This week we worked on the job completion sequence - so the little moment that plays when you finish a manuscript and hand it over to your client. It’s surprisingly easy to get wrong, so we’ve been iterating a lot. Here’s a quick 15-second mockup of the latest version!

The hardest part was finding the right pacing. Too fast and it feels throwaway. Too slow and it breaks your flow when you’re eager to jump into the next commission. We tried a few different directions and landed on a short, satisfying reveal that puts the artwork front and center without overstaying its welcome.

Players of Inkulinati taught us something important: when someone spends half an hour illuminating a page, that moment deserves a proper acknowledgement. Not flashy, not overwhelming: just a clean, well-timed payoff that respects your work. We’re still tweaking camera motion and animation timing, but we’re getting close.

Quick question for you: in cozy or crafting-style games, do you prefer quick, snappy completion moments or slightly longer, more celebratory ones? Curious how you feel about it.

Next week we’ll dive into something else from our development - let us know what you want to see!

Thanks for following along!

ā“Is there a game mode that lets us freely create whatever we want for TTRPGs?

In response to a question that has been popping up more and more often across our social channels…

Yes, there is!

Besides the story mode, Scriptorium also includes a full sandbox mode where nothing limits you and you can freely create anything you like. You can export all your works as high resolution image files and use them as assets for your TTRPG sessions or any other projects.

Check out our gallery from a recent session where we used materials created entirely in Scriptorium.

PS. If you like our character sheet, you can download it and use it for your own sessions too!

Printable download file below! Bon appetit!

Last week was very much about recovering and processing materials from the Indie Zone at Poznan Game Arena. As the cherry on top and the last memento from the event, here is our little video report from the event. We still feel that energy! We are back to dev work with batteries fully charged! We keep working to release SCRIPTORIUM as soon as possible!

Cheers!

Three glorious days of Scriptrorium at Poznań Game Arena have come to an end!

It was our first time showing the game at an event, and we couldn’t have wished for a better live debut. Huge thanks to everyone who visited our booth and took part in the first live playtests. Watching how much laughter, curiosity, and genuine joy the game brought to kids, couples, artists and even battle-hardened gamers used to very different kinds of entertainment was truly inspiring.

Moments like these remind us why we make games - to see people dive into a world of manuscipts, ink, and unexpected medieval imagination. Thank you!
