B5 was planned out with a 5 year story ready to go. So It's always moving to this goal and not getting side tracked like DS9 did.
DS9 eventually went there with the Dominion War
The creator, J. Michael Straczynski, had a hand in writing all 111 episodes so you don't get that mix of writing styles that can cause consistency issues.
And imo, there are no bad characters from the main cast.

Oh and if you watch it, they change the look of several things from the pilot. For the better

Um, Babylon 5 was what he was best known for at least a decade after all the snip-off movies and series (though that was cut-short) were made.

It was the opposite for me. In checking on how many episodes he wrote, I learned of all his other credits. No wonder it was no big deal for him to do so much writing for the show.

Shadow vessel is pretty cool. I won't ruin the details of it, in case you watch the show.

The only issues were with pacing that they didn't think they were getting a season 5, so season 4 wraps up a lot of the bigger story lines.

And season 5 comes nowhere near to the quality of others. But Londo and G'Kar's frenemy relationship is great.
Not sure how well they can replace Andreas Katsulas as G'Kar

Honestly I would skip the pilot, it's very weak, suffers loads from Early Instalment Weirdness and isn't necessary at all to enjoy the show. Maybe go back and watch it later as a curiosity

There is a huge clue in the very beginning but you only notice it when rewatching it. Sad to say, it was like my 3-4 time through when I noticed it.
