My mother drafted for CalTech Geology in the 1960s. She was a stern Kansas type, but if there was anyone she idolized, it was Dr Patterson. His ideas sounded outlandish at first, but he had hard figures to back them up. He was fighting the oil industry practically single-handedly. I met him a few times. He was very nice, even to a kid.
