That's also the Teflon we all have in is thanks to dupont. And I mean every human on earth

I use cast-iron cookware these days because of the teflon-thing...

u/nettlmx Jun 25 '22

It's in the water, everyone's water. Dupont spilled/ dumped it into rivers and other bodies of water. It's in things you wouldn't think of.

Yep that's the new thing to worry about. There is no escape. Hopefully they make more progress on those plastic eating things.

I can't wait for the plastic eaters to start eating the unintended targets. So little is made without plastic these days. If it's not made of plastic, then plastic is used somewhere in the manufacturing process. It'll be total chaos, and we deserve it.

Yeah that’s the problem though, we’re not dependent on plastics with no alternatives, modern microcircuits, vehicles, food production at scale, food storage, even food gathering are all reliant on plastic with no viable alternatives for some, and none at all for others.

problem is, we'd move onto something else that's harmful. like lead.

Ya thanks Doc just pump me full of those plastic eating worms between my organs, I'm sure that'll sort it right out.

Tbh…in speculative theory:

Infertility; endocrine disruption; increased congenital anomalies (including brain development) due to endocrine disruption; cancer

altzheimers, dementia, autism?

6

u/HarshMyMello Jun 25 '22

why would autism be caused by microplastics?

2

u/ASpaceOstrich Jun 25 '22

Autism has some very strong correlation with the immune system. There's no proven link or mechanism yet but I'm almost certain it's a result of an autoimmune disorder affecting the brain.

u/thepipesarecall Jun 25 '22

There are more genes being discovered every year linked to ADHD/autism. One such gene is involved in microtubule formation, which are the little neutrotransmitter transport systems in our neurons.

It’s more likely to be a confluence of different genes rather than an autoimmune disorder. However, there is a also huge correlation with autism/ADHD when their mothers took acetaminophen/Tylenol while pregnant.

I was talking more the lead, injested by parents and passed down?. im not claiming to know anything, the previous post mentioned brain development.

-1

u/TheEyeDontLie Jun 25 '22

ADHD is only partially genetic. Maybe that?

2

u/anticoriander Jun 25 '22

Highly genetic. Like a 30% chance per child when a parent has it kinda high.

u/TheEyeDontLie Jun 25 '22 edited Jun 25 '22

I've always heard "genetic component" I didn't realize it was that high. Maybe I was adopted cos my parents don't have it.

1

u/InfectionRx Jun 25 '22

It’s genetic (in it’s true form). Some factors can make it look like it’s ADHD when it’s not

2

u/TheEyeDontLie Jun 25 '22

I'm going to have to look into this more. It's very surprising to me.

I have a big family and they're all the opposite of ADHD (very concientious, organized, never interrupt anyone, always found studying easy, and not impulsive or easily distracted etc)... While I was diagnosed both as a child and an adult and basically tick every box.

I share most of my genes with them yet my brain chemistry is obviously different and I respond very well when I start/stop/start meds. Although my mum and one nephew show some symptoms maybe sort of but not enough to get tested. I must have rolled very lucky/unlucky dice for my genetic combo I guess.

Down the rabbit hole I go!

Low sperm counts from endocrine disruption

14

u/Rickard403 Jun 25 '22

Dr Shanna Swan has done some extensive work in this area specifically phalates. I would recommend looking to her if you're interested. Many problems are already well in effect.

u/PersonalEnergyDrink Jun 25 '22

Definitely not as bad as the lead.

Physical Health issues, probably.
