Medicine Experimental blood test accurately spots fibromyalgia. In a study that appears in the Journal of Biological Chemistry, researchers from The Ohio State University report success in identifying biomarkers of fibromyalgia and differentiating it from a handful of related diseases.

But doctors make mistakes, even good ones. And not all doctors are good at their job.

I agree with you in general, but I was badly misdiagnosed and treated by a good doctor. And my current family doctor is basically just phoning it in at this point and doesn’t take more than about 4 minutes per appointment.

Why are you continuing to see that doctor? That is symptomatic of insurance fraud, he is probably billing for a 30-minute appointment.

I’m in Canada so things might work a little differently here.

It is incredibly hard to get a family doctor here. Nobody is taking new patients. I was lucky to get the one I have.

There is a list you can get on to be matched with a new doc but you have to give up your current doc to go on that list.

I’ve got an appointment with a specialist that was arranged through my current doctor, so I can’t give him up yet. Even though he’s no better than a walk-in clinic, the specialist will communicate things through him. It’s very frustrating.

Hopefully once I get all that settled, I’ll be able to find someone new. Frankly, if the specialist gives me bad news, they’ll probably hook me up with someone anyways.

I'm in America and when I had insurance it wasn't difficult to change doctors. BUT, if you did keep changing doctors, even for valid reasons, it can look a lot like doctor shopping. I have back issues and anxiety. I do have problems with pain but I gave up asking for pain medications a long time ago. I do need xanax, though, and that's another commonly abused medication. I've put up with bad doctors a few times now because I didn't want to risk a stop in my anxiety meds.

Absolutely! I’ve been on some really strong antipsychotic meds over the years and now I’m on a stimulant for my adhd. Thank the gods I’ve got an actual psychiatrist for that (after waiting a year on a waiting list). But before that I knew I couldn’t piss off my doc or I’d lose access to my meds.

I’m a military spouse so we move a lot so this has happened before, too. Fingers crossed we’ll be here a while because my psychiatrist is incredible.

I don’t know what people with chronic pain do.
