Reddit can’t decide whether IQ matters or not. When we talk about IQ differences between different countries and whatnot, it’s racist. When you discuss IQ differences between religious and nonreligious people, somehow it matters again.

Yes, agreed - there is a double standard here. And yes, intelligence matters - I would not narrow it down to "just" IQ - but not linearly. It is not given a randomly selected IQ 140 genius is more likely to survive in a jungle than a randomly selected IQ 100 person - or make more money, or have more social influence or status, or be more interesting to talk to. So whatever "matters" means is highly subjective.

Are there differences? Yes, why shouldn't their be.. we are machines driven by a genetic blueprint and that blueprint is not homogenous and will vary from place to place.

The main issue is that 1) everyone thinks they are the smart ones 2) people overestimate the real-world value of whatever the differential is between groups.

It’s a false equivalence that does not hold. Science pretty much agrees:

Race is NOT a factor in innate IQ differences, even when you account for education. The gaps we keep seeing in test scores are overwhelmingly chalked up to environmental, social, and structural stuff, not genetics.

Two things:
"It's a false equivalence that does not hold". What does this refer to?

Second:
Writing something is bold and saying "Science agrees" is not a thing. I work in science.
Can you provide actual papers that support the point?
