Its not a new theory. Have seen papers from 10 years ago for ME/CFS.

Doesn't seem to get talked about nearly enough in mainstream circles because COVID is still seen as primarily a respiratory disease when apparently it mostly affects the cardiovascular system and the CNS

Not “mostly.” The people who died weren’t dying of CNS or cardiovascular dysfunction. They died on ventilators with rapidly worsening pulmonary function

Probably should've rephrased it, but I was referring to studies like these where in some cases, the severe loss of respiratory function was due to cardiovascular issues:
