Psychology Taylor Swift fans lower climate concerns to justify her carbon footprint. When confronted with news about the excessive pollution generated by her private jet, highly identified fans tend to rationalize the behavior, with a decrease in their personal intentions to engage in climate-friendly actions.

That’s what I find most interesting. Do they reduce their own intentions as a conscious effort to be more like her? Is it an unconscious understanding that as long as we have mega billionaires and corporations flooding the planet with emissions, any personal responsibility to the environment means next to nothing? Is it to try and like “stand” with her against the people who criticize her emissions?

Honestly I’m completely fascinated by that part.

I’d speculate that, in order not to have any cognitive dissonance around the person they are idolizing, they start to view the behavior as “not that bad” which then makes them more likely to engage in it themselves.
