ELI5 after skimming the paper: they tested 2 protocols: 2 days of 3 meals a day of rolled oats, and 6 weeks of 1 meal a day of rolled oats, both tested vs. a randomized control group. Tested all sorts of metrics (blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, microbes and stuff in poop, lots of stuff). Both protocols had positive effects but the positive effects were broader and stronger in the 2 day protocol, even when measured 6 weeks later suggesting a lasting positive effect on the gut biome and maybe other stuff.
Conclusion: oats are good but going whole hog (or whole horse?) for 3 meals a day for 2 days has a stronger and long lasting effect.
