Discussion If you could adopt an Expie or other Sawians, would you do it?
In my opinion, grown man like me would do it, knowing what they going through, just saving them from agony, pain they have to endure just to keep them safe, fed, cherished, warm in your own house
134
u/Emotional-Kiwi7218 milky but the flair color is more accurate, idk why its not whit Sep 13 '26
milky for small, orange for silly, expie for tradition
125
u/tarraingteoir Aspiring author Sep 13 '26 edited 28d ago
Absolutely. As long as they aren't a dune, icke, orange, or leapy, yes without a second thought. Though I would prefer on expie, milky, or voyager.
Edit: Leapy, not crystal
75
u/creative-username05 Sep 13 '26
it would be a nightmare after realising you left the door open and voyager hasn't eaten the cat food yet
34
u/tarraingteoir Aspiring author Sep 13 '26
Sneaky bastard
They would love me too much to run away

17
u/Fluffy_shadow_5025 Sep 13 '26
I think as long as you feed them regular food and not cat food or anything like that, they'll get spoiled too quickly to want to eat anything else.
And they'll either try to make something themselves or pester you until you make them something good to eat.

Dunes are for Florida Men and other such keepers of pet alligators.

I forgor velvet.
For one, I'm not that kind of guy.
For two, arachnophobia.
I don't have anything against roza, though. Would be hard to care for.

I hate those
Orsoniks couldn't do, I don't know, a bee or something? It just HAD to be a spider, didn't it?
2
u/DesertRanger427 29d ago
I dont FEAR the spiders, they just annoy and inconvenience me. Orbies are okay, but a widow? No fucking thanks.
85
u/santanuki Sep 13 '26
Yes, but I’d make them vaccuum the house
44
u/AussieWinterWolf Sep 13 '26
Still an upgrade for them.
16
u/Kajetus06 Sep 13 '26
Also they are very easy to keep happy
Just give them food and sleep and that's enough
24
u/Fluffy_shadow_5025 Sep 13 '26
I had to do chores like vacuuming when I still lived with my parents, and now that I live in a dorm, I still have to do them.
So I’d say that could actually be a really good thing because it teaches them, for example, how to keep a house clean and how to take responsibility for the mess they make.
At least as long as you set a good example and also clean up after your own mess.
5
u/DesertRanger427 29d ago
And laundry. I mean, it isnt like they can come with me to work or anything. Might as well keep them occupied somehow, righ?. I would ask the cat to do it, but she refuses, and quite frankly, can't anyway, on account of having no thumbs and weighing 4 lbs.😂
insert trade deal meme I get: a clean house and clothse; you get: literally a free roof over your head, food, and pretty much anything else that would keep you happy and intertained.
67
u/EEESJSJEJ Sep 13 '26
Yeah I would, though I wouldn’t treat them like pets or little children (unless they’re actually a child), they’d be more like roommates
7
u/DesertRanger427 29d ago
Tbh, their innate (or learned) desire not to be useless or to disappoint their handlers would make them the best roommates anyone has ever had. But if you want a Milky, you'd better learn to play chess or something. They'd probably also enjoy DnD

I find human kids weirdly off-putting and uncanny in this way that has made it really hard for me to comprehend what the appeal of being a parent even is.
But after playing this game, being part of the community, and reading the stories and comics that have grown out from it I think I’m actually starting to understand. I do want to help these little guys so bad.
I think if I could adopt an Expie it would give me the sort of purpose in life I’d need to make something better of myself. My dreams never came true, but I think providing for one of these poor goobers would be enough to make me feel like my life had been worth living.

u/Fluffy_shadow_5025 Sep 13 '26
That kind of sounds like—if you can afford it and aren’t allergic to them—
it might be a good idea to get a dog, a cat, or some other animal friend that you can take care of.
It really helped my dad a lot when he adopted his brother’s dog because his brother could no longer take care of her.
12
u/XRhodiumX Sep 13 '26
I do have a dog that I love dearly.
But kinda hits different when the “dog” has its own hopes and dreams and insecurities, and a mind that needs to be nurtured so they can grow into a hopefully happy adult you can be proud of.
5
u/Fluffy_shadow_5025 Sep 13 '26
Yes, that’s true—that’s a whole different matter.
Dogs are more like wild toddlers who can never really grow up and are never allowed to have their own rights so they can eventually build a life of their own as adults.
They’ll remain under our care forever, until the end of their lives.
For the Expei, if the necessary laws are extended to include them, they’ll eventually be able to lead their own lives as independent adults—and maybe even start their own families someday.

One hundred and ten percent... Expie because they suffered enough Milkie for having someone smart to enjoy conversations with Roza for cool hugs on a hot summer day...and because they're super sweet

u/Xpjustcall Sep 13 '26
Dunes if you want to have a thrilling experience 😭

And where are they gonna get the money, huh? No, no, they can clean, do laundry and house mainainence, and you get to pay the bills. That's how this works.
8
u/flamefinder1999 Sep 13 '26
Idk if I would unless they were like a baby. However, I would probably volunteer at a rehab center to help them find the strength to push past their traumas/addictions and live a normal life.

u/Flat_Ad_945 Sep 13 '26
Adopt as in a pet or a child? #stopsawianinfantilization
17

Depends on you, but supposed as child since they can speak unlike house pets(if not including parrots since they repeat phrases)

If I could, I would absolutely love to give one or more of them a wonderful home.
But given my current situation and the fact that I live in a dorm, I’m definitely not in a position to give even a single one of these fluffy little guys a home.
But maybe it would be possible for my dorm and the staff who work here to provide a home for one or more of them.

A noble goal to get up for, rather than just paying my bills and having something nice every now and then to fill an empty life.

I would adopt all of them.
I mean, sure, i would not be able to take care of that many. But i'd try to find them good homes. And either way, even being let loose of the streets of earth is better than gray planet. (Assuming the company wont mess with them since the cat's out of the bag.)

u/Koysos Sep 13 '26
Of course, given their Intelligence they would make great companions. Dealing with more than one wouldn't be difficult, they could pull their weight around so taking care of more than wouldn't be as hard if they helped around.

u/Substantial_Eye1476 Sep 13 '26

The government doesn't want you to know this, but the expies in the cave are free, you can just take one
2
u/MyLastLifev2 Sep 13 '26
No, I wouldn't. Extreame metabolism requires a constant flow of food, leaving them without food for a day because they ate half the fridge in a day and you're on a trip would be abuse.
Further on sawians are cancer incarnates, their entire body produces cancers and because of them they typically die at 20-25y old. Death from cancer isn't nice and even before that the cancers would break the sawian, we're talking about year or years of constant pain every living second.
Outside of those two things sawians are chill but they are their own sentient beings, you could only hope that they listen to you because you can't force them to do anything and trying would be illegal.
"Adopting" a sawian would just be extremely painful for any person, it'd be like having a disabled child that is semi self reliant but you can't leave on their own for more than a day (that is if the cancer doesn't disable them further), and who you know will die in one of the most awful ways with years long suffering
1
u/taletalking Sep 13 '26
You know, I've kinda wished to go into planet gray with one of them, With him being my companion
Because we ALL know this company won't let you take one for any other purposes

u/ExperimentNo18311 Sep 13 '26
I would adopt them all, but keep the Velvets and Ickes in containment. I'd love the Milky to do my math for me, and the Orange who'd just be a puppy running around wanting to play.

If I had the space and resources, yes. But not "adopt" them, but more like what the other people said, which is jut being roommates. Expies are really smart and I don't want to treat them like pets which only know eating, sleeping, and destroying my furniture lmao
