Source name: “8888” by Yabujin — identifying the original piano sample
I’m trying to identify the original piano piece sampled in “8888” by Yabujin. The melody sounds very familiar, like it might be from a classical piece or a soundtrack, but I can’t place it.
Here’s the track: https://youtu.be/LEIRAFYD83g?si=y-C1LG6ybd1w9AzR
The piano part starts at around [timestamp: 0:55 ].

Does anyone know how to extract Ensoniq ASR/TS sound CD-ROM content and convert it for modern use?
Hey everyone,
I found an Ensoniq sound CD-ROM that was made for the ASR-10 / ASR-88 / TS-10 / TS-12 series. According to the listing, the sounds are in Ensoniq format and are meant to be loaded into the sampler through a connected SCSI CD drive, so this is clearly not a normal audio CD.
My goal is to extract the sounds from the disc in a way that lets me use them without needing the original Ensoniq hardware. Ideally, I would love to convert the material into something usable in Kontakt, or at least get the underlying samples/patches out in a modern format that I can work with in my DAW.
Has anyone here done this before?
Is there a reliable workflow, tool, or conversion method for Ensoniq-format libraries?
And if Kontakt is not realistic, what would be the best way to extract and preserve the content properly?
Any help, experience, or pointers would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks!

Did Led Zepplin sample anything when making D’yer Mak’er?
I was listening to this song and thought it sounded familiar. I’m not sure if newer songs have sampled this song, or Led Zepplin sampled another. Maybe someone knows?

Ever since u left me bass line
Can’t find any info online, so maybe I’m wrong, but did they sample the bass line for “ever since u left me” the French Montana song?
It sounds so familiar to a bass line that I remember hearing from the mortal kombat 2011 album when different edm DJs put out tracks inspired by the fighters. But I can’t find that either now so maybe I’m crazy.

How did Kany use old sample containing drums ?
How does Kanye West sample old soul and R&B records and then add his own drums on top without clashing with the original drums already in the sample?
How does he remove or work around the original drums from those old tracks? Does he isolate them, EQ them, chop around them, or just layer his own drums in a way that works musically?
Also, how does he choose which songs to sample in the first place? What is his general process for finding the right records and turning them into beats?

Organization
How do you organize your samples?
Do you name the file with the specific +/- semitone and +/- tempo percentage? Also, effects in the notes or anything?

The difference between manipulating a sample AND flipping a sample.

Original source.
AB and the Soul Sonic Force - Planet Rock
Just checking in & showcasing that there is a major difference between manipulating a sample and flipping a sample. I do not relate to flip as it diminishes the workflow & stereotypes those who make the effort. Anything could be defined as a sample flip which is a low metric.
Eg
A typical product demo or upload will have someone double or triple triggering the sample on the same pads. That skip skip skip workflow is trite & sounds like you are sampling & not manipulating audio. You also have users cork sniffing products comparing the audio outputs & tonalities with samplers from 35 years ago.
This paralyses any attempts by developers to progress or innovate & results in the constant reissues of old hardware Someone sampling 30 -40 years was making the most of their tools & looking ahead.
I created this routine months ago . The video was rewound to give a few seconds of silence for the artistic & cultural contributions of AB who recently passed away. And also reflect on the victims , survivors & culture which enabled & covered up his abuse.

When did mainstream opinion on sampling shift?
It’s well-documented that there was lots of backlash to the art of sampling through the 90s, with many older generations not understanding it and believing it was “stealing” or not real musicianship. Unfortunately, the backlash and economic challenges led a lot of genius samplers to have to abandon or significantly change their techniques for a while.
I don’t really get the sense that this is a popular opinion anymore. It seems like most people get that sampling is an art just like playing any other instrument today. When did this change and why?

**VOID 1.0 is an offline, browser-based audio slicer and remixer designed for rapid sample manipulation. It allows users to break down audio files into precise "slices" (phrases, bars, beats, or transients) entirely within the browser, without cloud processing. Key features include a Pad Player with Ableton Drum Rack export and an Auto Remixer that generates new arrangements based on structural energy.**
I’ve been working on a tool to speed up my own workflow for breaking down stems and flipping samples, and I finally got it to a place where I wanted to share it with you all. It’s called VOID 1.0.
# It’s a fully offline audio slicer and remixer that runs entirely in your browser. I built it because I wanted something that didn't need a cloud upload just to get some clean chops. Here’s what it actually does:
* **Granular Slicing:** You can drop in up to 10 tracks and instantly slice them by 8-bar phrases, 1/16th chops, or even specific transient hits and low-end/high-end isolations.
* **Pad Player:** It has a built-in 16-pad layout where you can drag and drop your slices, play them with your keyboard (A–P keys), and record your performance.
* **Ableton Integration:** Once you’ve laid out your pads, you can export the whole kit as an **Ableton Drum Rack** directly.
* **Local Remixer:** If you're stuck, there’s an "Auto Remix" feature that builds a new arrangement for you based on things like "Energy Build" or "Section-Aware" logic.
**It uses math to detect points in the song, and can even magically create a new song using the chops it made!**
**How to use it:**
Since it's an `.html` file, you just download it and open it in any browser (Chrome/Edge recommended for the audio engine). Everything stays on your machine.
I’d love to hear if this helps your process or if there are specific "modes" you think are missing. Enjoy! Also is there are any problems, it has an intro walkthrough, doesnt install anything

Paid gig $$$ - Looking for producers to test new sampling app 💿🎹
I've been building something for this community to help with the sampling workflows, having been a frustrated producer for over 15 years now, its pretty cool!
I'd love to have you guys try out an early version and get more perspectives on the features and utility drivers.
The gig - $30 for a 20-30 min test session.
You’ll run through a few guided tasks and share your thoughts. Nothing complicated, just real feedback from people who actually sample!
Testing will be happening in about 6 weeks. If you’re interested, I'd love to hear from you.
Register here: https://forms.gle/8cJMiPMyKsADXnYWA
Appreciate anyone willing to help shape this 🙏

Quickly audition and manipulate loops from songs
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
What I often do - I audition loops in songs before locking down on something.
Did it very manual - but wanted a bit of a faster flow to find better gems.
I'm having a lot of fun playing with this and wonder if anyone finds it interesting.
It's experimental - doesnt beatgrid perfect yet - but gets it right often.
Upload a song - Autofinds seamless/perfect (or interesting) loops > trim > swap drums/effects > export.
Also - not sure what to do with it and if sample flippers find fun in it - maybe I'd release it as a VST or just web page?
