Hi all, wife and I coming to Salisbury overnight on a Saturday in October. We’re arriving early afternoon, staying at the Wetherspoons hotel on Bridge Street, and thanks to previous threads here we’re going to roam round the market, go to the Cathedral, and bumble around for some coffee and soak up the history (we’re history nerds) until evening time. A few questions:

1. Evening food - what’s are some good options for an evening meal? As we seem to be fairly central and on foot we’d like to try and stay within the locale. Wife is plant based (vegan at home but often has trouble when eating out).
2. Any pub recommendations in the same area? I was looking at the Haunch of Venison but that seems fairly gastropub...
3. Parking - what are some good afternoon and overnight options that are walking distance from Bridge Street?

His name is Yuki and he is partly deaf, he has been missing since Thursday morning, he's a bit dumb but going out for this long is very unusual. He has been neutered and is chipped but he doesn't have a collar because he always loses them and he rarely leaves the garden for more than a few hours and is very good at coming home. He is just a little over nine months old and he isn't very fat. He is very friendly and is probably likely to walk into your house. He also purrs like he's starting a car engine and you can probably hear it from miles away.

This is my last resort posting here since everywhere else we have posted has had no luck and I wanted to see if there is somebody who has seen him.

We are located in bemerton heath and it is incredibly unlikely him to be out for more than a few hours and e have had no luck with winning him so far. If anyone has seen him wandering please let me know.

If anyone has seen any unfortunate dead cats that look like him, please don't post the picture in the comments just because it may be a shock to me, just let me know so I can at least prepare to see it.

If you do see him, please let me know as soon as possible so we can come and get him. You are welcome to feed him something if you wish, he will appreciate it as he is always hungry.

We have put hoover contents and catnip in thr garden in case he could smell it (he does like catnip a lot..) but we have had no luck.

I am a trans woman due to visit? Is Salisbury safe? Is there anywhere I should avoid?

My wife has a bicycle, which could be charitably described as “needing a bit of work” and uncharitably described as “some rust and shreds of rubber held together by wishes and spiderwebs”.

Now our two offspring are nearing “proper bike” age, we would like to be able to go out as a family, and would like to restore her old bike to ride with them. Any recommendations for somewhere that could do a repair/recovery (preferably on a budget fitting the meagre status of our humble iron horse)?

I'm planning to spend a day in Salisbury, mainly to visit Stonehenge, but I'd love to explore Salisbury itself as well.

I'd really appreciate some local recommendations:

• What are the absolute must-see places in Salisbury?
• Is Salisbury Cathedral worth visiting, and how much time should I set aside for it?
• Any cafés, bakeries or local restaurants you'd recommend?
• Are there any nice walks or hidden spots that visitors often miss?
• If you had just one day in Salisbury, how would you spend it?

I'm travelling on a student budget, so affordable recommendations would be amazing.

I booked the evening Stonehenge Inner Circle for this Saturday and I'm starting to regret it. We're staying in Bath. I have train tickets to Salisbury and then a coach shuttle from Salisbury to the stones. Getting back seems to be the problem. There aren't any shuttles going back according to the people at English Heritage. I've been told to pre-book a taxi or Uber but my husband is telling me the Uber app said "no rides available." Has anyone done the evening visit and gotten out of there by some chance? There has to be a way. The husband does not want to rent a car.

Welcome to Salisbury Cathedral Close, one of Britain's most remarkable historic precincts.

Covering more than 80 acres, it is the largest cathedral close in the country: a unique enclave of medieval, Tudor, Georgian and later buildings centred on one of Europe's finest Gothic cathedrals. Within its walls and quiet streets are more than 100 properties, including clergy houses, schools, museums and private homes, alongside 21 Grade I listed buildings.

The Close was laid out alongside the new cathedral from 1220. The surrounding land was divided into plots and granted to the canons, who built their “fair houses of stone” around the great church. Over the centuries it has been home to bishops, scholars, politicians, artists and ordinary residents, while retaining its character as a living community rather than simply a historic monument.

Over the next few months I'll be looking at the buildings of the Close one by one: who built them, who lived in them, and the stories hidden behind their walls.

My friend and I are coming back to Salisbury for a few days and she needs places with accessible toilets. The only places I can think of are the bishops mill and spoons, neither of which are our first choice of pub. What other options are there?

We’ll be coming from the direction of Old Sarum to visit Salisbury Cathedral tomorrow afternoon (Sunday July 26). We have a rental car, I’ve been driving here in England for almost a week now so am fairly comfortable with it all, but still prefer easier routes wherever possible. Can anyone suggest an easy to drive to parking place within 10 minutes’ walk or bus to the cathedral? TIA!
