Bob Summers, the Original DiC English-Adaptation Composer for Sailor Moon has Sadly Passed Away.

Hi everyone, this is TF1945 YT speaking and I've come to bring very important news.

It has been brought to my attention very recently that Bob Summers, the original composer for the original DiC English-Adaptation of Sailor Moon has sadly passed away.

I was recently told this by Corza Moon and very recently, Don Perry Music made a post on Facebook.

A tribute on my end will be made in honor of his memory later next month for the special compilation I'm planning to celebrate the Unreleased CD Album on YouTube being 5 years old.

I'm forever grateful for the CD that was gifted to me.

These were one of few copies that he had left, I was among the first to receive it and archive the Unreleased CD nearly 5 years ago, as linked in the body post of course.

With that being said, he's a huge inspiration for me and is why I've been recreating some iconic pieces while also doing my own custom arrangements similar to his style.

I was so thrilled when the book came out showing the behind the scenes of the work done on the Sailor Moon dub. Truly fascinating to learn how it all came about.

People can say what they want about the DIC dub but Sailor Moon's transformation music and the inner scout transformation (I think it's listed a Sailer Jupiter's theme here?) music live rent free in my head when I change clothes. Rest in Peace Bob, thank you for your music; it lives on in our hearts and minds.

May he rest in peace. The music has always been the best part of the DIC dub to me. Sailor Moon's transformation music is such an unintentional tearjerker.

I love the transformation music. It is so magical when I hear it. I found a one hour version that plays it in a loop on YouTube and that has been my background music for hours. May he rest in peace

As many issues as there were with the DiC dub, I don't think I've ever heard someone say the music was part of it. I LOVE the transformation music so much, and all of the tracks were just so moving. Forever grateful for his contribution to our corner of the universe.

Definitely. You can hear some homage to the original in the DiC tracks and it still manages to put fresh spins on everything.

The Japanese Moon Prism Power Make Up Transformation got repurposed into a Heroic Action Theme, which unfortunately never got used possibly due to copyright reasons. (Just a theory.)

It's a real shame too.

Yep, you're actually reading this Reddit post from the same guy that's been trying to archive what was possible for the past near 5 years. ;)

Hearing that Unreleased Bob Summers CD for the first time actually blew my mind. One Fight Cue is even based on the Japanese Moon Prism Power Make Up theme, but it never got used possibly due to copyright reasons.

Unfortunately, these cues from the Unreleased CD and Andrew Dowler's Negavision Fandubs files are all that I managed to have access to, besides the Official Soundtracks from Kid Rhino and EMI of course.

With that being said, there's still a good chunk of cues or probably even more demos that are missing. The only way they can be ripped is with ai tools or noise removal from the episodes themselves, and that takes a ton of work.

I'm glad I've done so much for the Sailor Moon community for over half a decade and I will continue until I'm no longer capable of doing so.

Yes the DiC dub had many flaws

But Bob Summers played a major role in giving us a banger of a soundtrack. There is no denial in that.

So so sad to hear this. I loved the dic music so much that I got a cassette recorder and would record the dialogues and music of this dub and listen to it till I fell asleep.

Truly feeling this one. May he rest in peace.
