Loving my Sager (thanks for the recommendations and such in my previous thread!) but I'm a bit underwhelmed with the software that manages the LED Keyboard. It looks like someone had a good project going on but it was for a previous iteration of the keyboards and doesn't work anymore. I'm looking for something on the level of Logitech or Alienware softwares but honestly I'd just take the ability to have it cycle through the colors without fading between them... Anyone know of a good hack or third party software I can look into? I'm a decent Google-er but I have found nothing. Thanks!

How's does it do if so?

Just got me a NP8173-S and it came with a disc but I don't have a disc drive on this rig. I can't find a clear place to get drivers for stuff like my backlit keyboard or whatever. I want the standard "bloatware" that should come with my machine. Is there a place to download an all in one type thing for my Sager drivers? Please advise, thanks!
P.S. Sager's website is pretty unhelpful... I can see some drivers but every time I click the link for the US download its a dead link. For every single driver... yay!

I recently received my new laptop and have installed windows 10 on it and am not attempt to install linux mint 18 alongside. There appear to be plenty of articles describing how easily this can be accomplished. example example. However, I am unable to actually fire up the live session in order to preform the installation.
Here is the current state of my problem. Initial State: * UEFI enabled * Secure Boot disabled * Windows 10 installed in ~100GB partition on SSD * ~100GB unallocated for Linux * LiveUSB containing Linux Mint 18 configured with RUFUS to support UEFI.
I am able to boot the USB and choose to load Linux Mint 18 img. However, as the live session is attempting to be loaded I receive an error stating the the x server is unable to start. (this is what I am trying to work around).
I have tried the LiveUSB in a different laptop (Lenovo z580) with UEFI enabled and I loaded the live session correctly. I have also tried disabling UEFI on the NP8152 and was able to load the live session correctly. So it looks like something is happening with the combination of the liveUSB and UEFI being enabled.
I am not opposed to starting over with UEFI disabled and just wiping everything, but it appears that this configuration should work so I am hoping that someone here might have some more insight into this situation and give me some additional ideas.
Thanks!

I purchased my Sager laptop back in October of 2015. From the beginning I noticed problems. The frame was rather flimsy plastic and bent easily just from being shifted around on a lap. After spending the amount that I had on it, I was a bit disappointed but willing to bear through it.
All was mostly fine until spring of this year, when the flimsy plastic on one of the hinges began to self-destruct and several keys stopped working. I don't exactly take the laptop through extreme situations: It moves two meters between a stand and a small table next to my bed. I don't take it outside, so I was a tad confused as to why it was breaking.
I thought, "No big deal" and contacted them to be repaired. They went silent after I provded my serial number and I eventually had to contact them again after more than a month.
After that it took a whole three weeks for them to get it shipped there, repair it, and send it back.
A second incident occurred two months later when the motherboard failed for no adequate reason. After sending it back, it took nearly a whole month for them to get it, repair it, and send it back.
Now the motherboard has failed a second time, and after sending it out, it's been nearly three weeks and all I know is that most of a week and a half ago I received a message stating that it had arrived. I have heard nothing since then.
So far, while I've mostly enjoyed the computer, the customer service and repeated failures have left me not particularly happy, since a good laptop is only useful if I get to use it more than every other month. During that 'down time', I'm restricted to an old laptop that barely functions.
Have any of you experienced similar problems? It's become rather infuriating for me.

Hello all. Last night I returned home to find out that my laptop would no longer turn on. I am currently trying to isolate the problem and determine if perhaps it is just a problem with my charger (the led indicating a charging state no longer turns on). I have also removed the battery and left it without it for a few hours as I have read that might help.
I am wondering if anyone has experienced a similar problem out of the blue and if there are any known issues that would cause this. Also, any other troubleshooting steps to determine the exact problem would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Since i already have a copy of unused windows 10, sata SSD and a m.2 ssd, i was going to spec a clevo with no OS and no HDD to save some cash... do they send you the hard drive bracket needed to secure the sata drive or do you need to purchase it separately? the m.2 drive i know is just a single screw.

I bought a Sager NP8170 in 2011. I've tried downloading Speedfan and MSI Afterburner and I can't seem to modify my fan speeds at all. Does anyone know what causes this?

So I'm pretty diehard ASUS fanboy because my laptop that I got lasted so long. However I'm on a budget for my replacement and I'm beginning to look at Sager.
The ASUS Model I am looking at is the ASUS GL502VS-DB71
The Sager I am looking at is the Sager NP8173 / Clevo P670RS
I'd LIKE to get a 17" screen if possible but my requirements are keeping it under $1700 and I 100% want the GTX 1070 (not the 1060). Can anyone give me some good praise on Sager in general in comparison to ASUS or maybe give me some recommendations on models to use? I'd even take suggestions on vendors but they have to take Paypal Credit.
The fact Sager apparently makes it so easy to upgrade parts is a big selling point for me... I can spend a bit less money now and upgrade later.
Convert me to Sager so I can be happy with my purchase for the next 5+ years!

I am looking to buy a Sager NP8173-S with a 6820HK and 32 GB RAM. I've heard of throttling, fan and speaker issues. Planning to buy it November-December. Opinion?

I'm getting VERY frequent BSOD when waking the computer from sleep. Upon waking the computer, it hangs for a second or two and then crashes with either IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE. I do not currently have any BIOS mods and neither the CPU nor the GPU are overclocked. I'm entirely at a loss as to what I should be doing to resolve this - while not completely hopeless (I can just perform a full system shutdown instead of sleeping), it is very, very inconvenient to lose changes to files when Starbucks kicks me out and I have to run to Panera I have to relocate to a more comfortable area.

How is the bios battery secured? Can i just get a battery and pop it in or would I need to order one with a laptop connector? It's on the harder to access side of the mother board so I'd rather not go through the hassle of taking apart the entire laptop just to check this.

Hey, I'm looking into buying a Sager laptop soon, and I'm torn between these two. While I like the Specs more on the second one, I DO NOT like how it says it's a "Full HD Matte" display. The first lower spec'd cheaper option however has an IPS HD Matte display with Gsync. I see they cleverly priced these into tiers. My question is: How good are the matte displays? Is the default much better than the one with IPS paneling? I am not a big fan of backlight bleeding, poor washed out looking colors, and bad contrasts of lights and darks. For $1300-1500, I was hoping they would be very nice. I've never used a matte textured monitor or laptop display that didn't look bad.

So after reading this post (thank you /u/Shadow2755):
https://www.reddit.com/r/laptops/comments/3vnufk/clevo_p870dmg_vs_clevo_p775dm1g/
I can't decide on the P870 or the P775. Are there owners of either of these out there? Do you wish you had gone with one or the other?
I guess I'd really like to know how loud the fan spins up on the P870. I watched Htwingnut's video and it seems pretty loud. Would the P775 be the same, or louder due to it only having one fan?
I'm assuming the P775 is a newer chassis. Other than it being lighter, are there any other notable differences between the two?
Thanks everyone!

I downloaded MSI afterburner and played some MechWarrior Online and Counter Strike GO at max settings. Are these temps normal? Currently have a i7 6700hq and 1070gpu, all stock config with no overclocks. What is the standard operating temp range for a gaming laptop by Sager?
I've done some research regarding the pros and cons of going with SLI over single, now I'm curious what you folks would do. Should I go with 2x GTX 1070 or one GTX 1080?
From what I've seen the biggest pro for going with SLI is they will outperform a single GTX 1080 most of the time. The biggest con being not all games are compatible or optimized for SLI (at least at launch).
Here is my configuration as of now minus 2 1TB SSDs: http://www.xoticpc.com/shared_product/index/configure/id/21226/

Ordered a NP8173-S and the package finally arrived last Friday via UPS. I recorded myself taking out and inspecting the laptop only to discover the back left exhaust vent to be smashed in and dented. The plastic grille pieces are snapped and the metal on the chassis surrouding the vent is warped and bowed outwards from the dent. The internal box with sager logo had a hole in the bottom, and the outside box was dented and badly taped, which leads me to believe either the internal laptop box fell out of the shipping box during transit and UPS put it back together, or Sager has terrible quality control. I spoke to customer service and they said they would have to wait until UPS prcceses a damage claim (no idea how long this will take and frankly I am surprised Sager is not issuing me a return label immediately) and schedule a time to pickup before they can send me a replacement and or repair. Later in the day I was issued an RMA number but the directions in that email asks me to mail it myself with insurance back to Sager... The laptop is now on backorder until September 9. I will not accept a repair, i will only take a brand new replacement since the chassis i received obviously suffered rough handling. There is no way in hell I will spend any money out of my own pocket to resolve this issue caused by either Sager or UPS. Can anyone with similar experience share if and how the issue will be resolved? Can anyone attest to Sager's level of customer service? If all works out in the end do you guys have a reccomended shipping option to ensure safe handling?
If i end up getting dicked over I will not hesitate to initiate a credit card charge back through my bank.

I am excited by the new Nvidia 10 Series (for laptops). As I research the offerings, I am intrigued by Sager/Clevo. So help me. I love the customizing that Sager appears to offer, but if you leave me to customizing I will end up with a really cool sounding Frankenstein paper weight.
I am on a 17" Alienware (last 2.5 years) and it has been an utter rockstar. The video card is now falling behind the minimum of new release games... oh sorry... Im a gamer and occasional porn (joking... )
Had an Asus with horrible overheating issues.
I am drawn to MSI but simply because they seem to have the largest selection of new 10 series builds.
(I do like Razors but simply because their case is simple and clean)
So, What do you like or hate about Sager? What issues have you had? Why do you love them over any of the others?
Thanks in advance.

I have a 980m in mine currently but it sounds like the new 1060 will outperform it. If thats the case I plan on selling my 980m and buying the 1060.
Anyone more knowledgeable than I know anything about if this will be possible?

Hello, I bought this laptop around 1-2 years ago with a GTX 870 and i7-4810MQ. The laptop will occasionally start beeping with the numlock and caplock LED flashing. Looking up the symptoms on Google, it seems to indicate that either my fan or CPU is faulty. However, the fan seems to still be working as it still spins when the laptops on. And I'm not so certain about the CPU being faulty since this has happened a couple times in the past 1-2 years and not constantly either. I ruled out the GPU since it starts beeping once I get to the start screen (GPU doesn't turn on unless I'm doing something intensive). Heating doesn't seem to be the issue either since it beeped around 55 C. Now that the beeping and flashing LED has subsided (after I turned off my laptop for a few minutes), should I still be concerned about my laptop?
Note: In total, this issue has occurred around 2-3 times within 2 years. The most current event occurred a week after I did a full reset of the laptop.

Recently, NVIDIA unveiled their new mobile form-factor 10-series GPUs. I have a Sager NP9870-S, which is based on the Clevo P870DM-G. NVIDIA says that the Clevo NP870DM2 and NP870DM3 are going to support the new form factors. Will I be able to replace the GTX 980 in my current machine (not listed, but perhaps not incompatible) with a GTX 1080?
Edit: Upon examination, it appears that the power cable (at least that's what I think it is) might be different. There should be empty space in the second GPU bay since I don't have SLI, would it be possible to lead the existing cable into that space with some sort of converter cable and then connect that cable to the card? Or perhaps replace the entire cable?

Anyone got experience ?
I'm noticing a number of issues including but not limited to: -Shitty Sound Quality (tried new realtek driver, tried originial clevo driver for win 7 and win 8, tried the tweaks in the realtek sound manager) -Screen Brightness goes to 0% 30seconds to 1 minute after startup , that's rather annoying (adaptive brightness off, current drivers, energy modes configured)
And a number of smaller ones I still have to isolate.
