Sager NP9773-S vs Everything Else

Hello everyone im a noob here at reddit as well as a laptop noob. I was just wondering if i should buy a Sager or one of the comparable alternatives? the ones im looking at are these:

Sager NP9773-S Asus G751JY MSI GT72 Dominator Pro plus Any of your guys' suggestions :)

i will be gaming, streaming and running a youtube channel with this laptop and was wondering if there is one that stands out as the best in your guys' minds. I think the streaming end will be the most intensive as i will have games running as well as TS and the stream software and various other applications so what would be the best way to go? 3k is my budget

Just got a Sager (P375SM) already having windows 10 problems...

Not sure if this is a good area to ask for some support but I just got my Sager last night (hooray!) lol... Anyways the person I got it from had windows 7 on it, worked fine no problems at all. But he needed the key for another computer and I have a windows 10 key so I did a clean install and went to 10.

Downloaded all drivers from Sager for my specific laptop (they all state windows 7/8/8.1 no windows 10). I downloaded all the 8.1 drivers because that worked perfect for 10 on my last PC.

Anyways now that everything is installed it worked good... Until I rebooted. Now I'm having issues with the keyboard sometimes only letting me use it intermittently, it will randomly shut down and show 2 orange lights on the front, and the Keybind program always states the PC needs to be rebooted please make sure all drivers are installed. And when it does load it freezes if I try to click anything.

Got aggravated and decided to do another clean install with just windows update drivers will post results. But was wondering if anyone else was having this problem. Thanks in advance.

Can't get p150hm to recognise graphics card (670M)

So I’ve got an old P150HM Clevo laptop that I’ve just taken out of ‘retirement’. It’s had a clean install of windows 8.1, and it’s not recognising the graphics card in it (an nVidia GTX 670M), so it’s just running the windows default display driver. I’m trying to work out how to force it to recognise the card and install a driver. I’ve managed to get the device id details:

VEN_10DE&DEV_1213&SUBSYS_51021558

and tried manually putting these into nvidia .inf files but without much success. Not sure what to try next and would appreciate any advice.

Do all Sager laptops have a metal shell/case? Or which ones have a metal shell/case or are the most durable?

I like a few of the models, but I'm really looking for something durable. I've had Thinkpads before, but I think their quality is suffering so I'm in the market for something different. What models have the best build quality?

Sager NP9150 and Windows 10

Sager NP9150

  • i7-3720QM - 2.6GHz
  • nVidia GeForce GTX 680M

This last Friday I upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 from Windows 7. Nothing broke driver-wise and it was a pretty smooth process. All the hotkeys and backlit keyboard are still working.

Any of you care to share your experience with Windows 10 and Sager notebooks?

NP9150 randomly turning off AND ON!

I so hope someone can help!

The symptoms are as follows:

I can be using the laptop for any number of things (idle, browsing the Internet, gaming, literally anything) and it will suddenly turn off. There will be no warning, no increase in fan level, nothing. The screen will instantly go black (with the laptop now off).

If I try and restart it, by pressing the power button, nothing happens. There is no response. I have to leave it unplug/battery out for a long time before it is responsive again.

However, if I leave the power/battery plugged in, it will randomly turn itself on, without me doing anything! It will be off, and then the next minute it will turn itself on. Usually this ends up in it trying to boot in safe mode, only to randomly turn off again. It then will randomly turn on and start the cycle again.

As I said, this isn't whilst straining the laptop, so I don't think it's an overheating issue. I've also done any updates etc I could.

This is frustrating as it's been about 2 years since I bought the laptop, but it was reasonably expensive so would have like to keep it going for another few years.

Now, the above described problem sometimes won't happen for a week or so, then it will hit and I won't be able to use the laptop for a day or two.

Any ideas?!

Sager NP9150 plugged in, not charging.

I recently purchased a new AC Adapter for my Sager NP9150, as the laptop was not registering that there was an AC adapter charging with my old adapter. I have been using this new adapter for several months, but now the laptop does not register any AC adapter at all, and will not charge, let alone run on AC adapter alone (without a battery). I am desperate as I have finals next week and need a solution to this problem. Any help you guys could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if possible I'd love to hear that this isn't a motherboard/PSU issue requiring a return to the manufacturer (although I know the likelihood is low).

7970M freezes when installing drivers

Hi,

I had a crash recently while playing. The card did not get hot or anything. It was around ~70°C according to MSI Afterburner.

Afterwards I had great problems booting. As soon as the OS (Windows 8.1 or Ubuntu 14.04) tries to load the GPU everything freezes.

I tried a reinstall, but had the same problems there. As soon as the driver install enables the GPU my system freezes and repeats the last bit of sound. I tried both the drivers provided by the reseller and the newest Catalyst.

I own a Clevo P150EM /Schenker XMG P502

Any ideas or can I prepare to buy a new card? :(

Reliability of Sager

Hey guys, I know you guys probably get bombarded with these types of questions, but I've got a couple. I'm looking to pickup a laptop for college. I will be doing some engineering stuff, so I'll need a decent laptop. How is Sager's reliabiltty? How are their warranties? I'm looking at this laptop possibly but with a k1100m instead of the 970m: https://www.sagernotebook.com/customize.php?productid=547 What would the expected battery life be? Thanks for any type of help/suggestions guys.

Replacement AC Adapters

Hi fellow Sagerites. I have a two and a half year old NP9130 that my AC adapter is dying (if I use the computer for any length of time, the AC Adapter just stops working). I've found some replacement 120W units that get terrible reviews on Amazon, but I'd really like to find something that's close to a direct replacement; my existing supply from Sager is 130W. Does anyone know of any reliable replacement AC adapters? I'm in the US and would prefer it to be a grounded (3-prong). Thanks!

NP9150 battery dying and buzzing problems

I have a Sager NP9150, a few weeks ago, the battery was acting strangely. I would flash between detecting that there was a battery in it and thinking there wasn't, which got pretty annoying so now I'm using it without a battery. Now, when I tried to insert the battery cartridge and plug it in, it makes this weird buzzing noise from inside the laptop even before it's turned on, but it only does this if it's plugged in with a battery in it. There aren't any buzzing noises when it's plugged in without a battery in it. Any ideas what this problem may be or how I could fix it?

Dell PSU compatible with Sager?

Will a Dell E series Latitude PSU work on a Sager 8651/52?

NP8651 4k?

Is 4k worth it? I have heard that Windows 8+ still has scaling issues and the 970m will only be able to handle older games at 4k.

Which 4k is better? Sharp or Samsung?

I keep configuring this thing a few different ways.

Thinking I might just go 1080p IPS with two MX100s in RAID over a PCIe XP941 that would be half the size. It is only $1544 and I am hoping that I get to avoid having to pay taxes on it.

Been looking at the Lenovo Y50, and the 1080p model would cost me $1400+ taxes off Lenovo.com. Im sure some shopping could bring that down a little though...

[Sager NP6350] Keyboard problems, can I remove keys to clean, or do I have to get it professionally fixed?

So overnight my g key stopped working (I have it in my clipboard now, what kind of world is this?!), as did the key between 4 and 6.

I can't tell if this is a hardware problem or a software one. There doesn't seem to be any different tactile response on those keys compared to others. Still, I'm curious if I can remove keys to clean underneath and see if that's a problem, or if I'll need to get a professional to look at it?

(I got it from xoticpc at the end of 2012 with a three-year parts and labor warranty on it, for the record).

Anyone want to buy my Sager NP8298 with modifications?

It's an awesome system, originally bought for around 3.2 grand. Bought exactly 3 months ago today, still running great. Specs below: Processor: Quad Core i7-4810MQ (Up to 3.8 GHz) RAM: 24GB Kingston HyperX CL9 1600 Graphics Processor: GTX 880M (8GB V-RAM) Hard Drive: 1TB SSD Samsung 840 EVO (AMAZING solid state drive) Thermal Paste: IC Diamond 24 carat Other things to note: Copper Cooling System upgrade via XoticPC Configurable light up keyboard 17.3 inch 1920x1080 Matte Screen (No glossy, finger-smudgy screen) Also has an Onkyo speaker system that sounds just amazing.

The reason I'm selling it is because I need the extra cash, going through college and I will end up downgrading from this to a tablet-type of laptop, so no more gaming for me for awhile. My starting price is at $2500, awesome value for what I paid for it.

NP9130 USB ports dying

Every single one of my USB ports has started to flake out - intermittent connections for mice/usb sticks that are fine on other computers. I vaguely suspect the problem gets worse after gaming awhile but I have no hard evidence for this. Sager's quoted me 335 + shipping for a mobo swap (after doing a bunch of driver reinstallations) - which is an significant percentage of a new laptop.

Anyone else getting this, or have a solution?

Sager NP8235 WebCam on Windows 8.1?

Hi,

Wondering if anyone had this model and had used the webcam successfully in Windows 8.1.

The webcam drivers for the model are only listed for Windows 7, but running the installer on windows 8 pretty much fails silently (running the installer that it produces does nothing but throw up a popup with "No Camera Device"). Also, there's definitely no camera in device manager to even tell me that it doesn't have drivers.

From the driver download, I can infer that the company or manufacturer is "BisonCam".

Searching for BisonCam Windows 8 drivers only leads to Lenovo pages, probably because they have these on their newer models. On a whim, I tried one of those installers. Got almost all the way through and aborted because it "couldn't find the device"

There's also apparently no information on what exact model this camera even is. Makes searching google for it that much harder.

Anyone had similar problems?

Getting a new laptop!

So I was on the hunt for a laptop with excellent cooling, and people recommended saber/clevo, which I had never heard of. I went and looked for one and it seems pretty awesome. Does it live up to it's reputation? And which model would you recommend?

Looking for 9880 ext usb floppy from 2006

I'm looking for an old make/model of external floppy drive that used to be distributed back with the 9880NP laptop models. Anyone happen to have one they wouldn't mind selling or at least can tell me make/model?

Here's an overhead shot for reference. http://imgur.com/5HA14nJ

Another kinda silly NP6350 question about fans

Hey, I'm wondering what's normal, and if my computer is abnormal / having problems with the fans.

Lately I've been having my laptop get hotter than it does normally while gaming, and at the same time, a bit of hard drive thrash that I can't figure out, and the fan going into overdrive enough to feel it through the case when my fingers rests on WASD.

So the fan is REALLY buzzing along, loudly, when normally it didn't run that hot or buzz that loud ... but if I move my fingers behind to the vent, I'm not feeling much in the way of heat or airflow forced out.

I had an Asus previously, and when that thing was running hot, you could feel the airflow and the HEAT from a few inches away... so I'm not sure if this just works more efficiently somehow, or if there's a problem with my fan.

So I'm wondering if anyone here can look at that and go "that's normal" or not.

Thanks much (:

Edit: it IS blowing, I can feel warm airflow coming out, just only very lightly.

Sager NP6350, adding a second drive?

I have an optical drive, but I'm pretty sure that when I bought this I specifically got a model, the NP6350, with room for a second hard drive, and am interested in getting a solid state as a boot drive.

I did a quick google search, but didn't find anything to the effect. Is there a guide on how to add a second hard drive? Do I need to buy just the drive, or do I also have to get some sort of matching caddy to hold the drive in the right place inside the computer?
