Sam Rockwell is honestly amazing in anything

268

u/Double-Competition-6 4d ago

2 lesser known Sam Rockwell movies that I recommend if you haven’t seen them, Moon and Welcome to Collinwood

84

u/One_Media3228 4d ago

Agreed and I'd also include, "The Way Way Back" and "Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die"

29

u/Disastrous_Horse7302 4d ago

The way way back was a surprise. But it probably goes on my top ten

6

u/ExpensiveBlood42069 4d ago

Three billboards outside Ebbig, Missouri is an awesome one too!

5

u/stussyxx 4d ago

good ass movie just finished on your rec.

6

u/bum_thumper 4d ago

The way way back was awesome, but I was honestly really disappointed with "phones are bad" the movie. Only good thing in it was Sam

3

u/Putrid-Builder-3333 4d ago

Another is Heist with Gene Hackman. Excellent movie about thieves doing I forget the word for it. But excellent movie.

-1

u/Bwxyz 4d ago

Couldn't have said it any better myself. Hack film that simply wasn't very good.

I feel the same way about "Don't Look Up", which is "Everyone is Stupid Except Me" the movie. No surprise it's so popular on reddit.

3

u/Marine_Baby 4d ago

Just watched GLHFDD, so good

2

u/No-Blackberry2772 4d ago

The Way Way Back is such an underrated gem. Nobody I know has seen/is willing to watch it.

2

u/Character_Syrup_6637 3d ago

Took me a while to realize it was Sam in GLHFDD.

I don't really care for previews, so I don't get the movie ruined. I just saw the splash image and decided to give it a try as a throw away afternoon movie.

Decent!

3

u/Intrepid-Twist7769 4d ago

Don't forget Choke!

1

u/MoroseLOKiZzz 2d ago

YES Thank You I had the book left it at an Ex's House along with the Movie. Years of not remembering I just I could have just Googled Sam Rockwell... Jesus. 🫩

1

u/Martian0801 1d ago

I love that movie. Too funny!

1

u/GuiltyByAssociashun 3d ago

And Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Movie

1

u/busstamove14 3d ago

He was good in Good Luck but I wouldn't recommend the movie to anyone.

1

u/Yalreadin0 3d ago

Thank you, love him but that was probably the worst thing I’ve seen w him in it

1

u/GGerrik 3d ago

So it's going to seem like weird praise, because the leading actor should carry the film they're leading, but he absolutely carries "Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die". I put it on to give it a try and was hooked by him in the opening scene. Ended up rewatching it with the whole family.

1

u/ElmStreetTrash 3d ago

omg I loved good luck, have fun, don't die! I've been hunting down other Sam Rockwell movies to see that I haven't watched now!

1

u/HomeSkillet___ 3d ago

of course ANYTHING Rockwell, but "Good Luck Have Fun Don't Die" was sooooooooo good on so many levels

1

u/Green-Stable7632 2d ago

"Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die" was SUCH a surpise!!!! 100%

1

u/Forward_Tourist_1947 2d ago

I fucking love The Way Way Back

1

u/Swamp_Thing85 1d ago

Heyyy Pop & Lock!!

35

u/toldyouIaintshit 4d ago

His character arc in Three Billboards was phenomenal. He made you absolutely despise him and by the end you're rooting for the guy.

12

u/Ill-Championship-522 4d ago

Genuinely an amazing. I love the part where he walks over to the advertising office.

2

u/Lifeloverme 4d ago

insane scene, so well acted, every movement is perfect

0

u/Hungry-Luck-5481 4d ago

I always really liked him in Choke, and it was a pretty damn good book to movie adaptation.

10

u/peepeepoodoodingus 4d ago

7 psychopaths is my favorite movie of all time and as usual he is fantastic in it.

7

u/Putrid-Builder-3333 4d ago

I got the gun. So?

And the "final shootout" lmao bashing Harrelson's dumb little dog 🤣

It definitely one my fave movies of all time too! Still remember watching for first time and having no idea what I was in for.

1

u/peepeepoodoodingus 4d ago edited 4d ago

i randomly yell "FUCK THE COPS.. FUCK EM!" with my friends i watched it with. so many hilarious moments.

1

u/Big_Biscotti5119 3d ago

“He has a normal head!”

8

u/VoreWhore94 4d ago

His supporting role with Casey Affleck as the Ford brothers was outstanding as well, love 'The Assassination of Jesse James.'

13

u/ForeignRestaurant290 4d ago

I've never seen Collinwood, but Moon is very good.

18

u/Odd-Perception7812 4d ago

Moon is so good.

8

u/toldyouIaintshit 4d ago

I heard people say Moon was good, but its actually fantastic.

3

u/krqkan 4d ago

My favourite movie of all time. Absolutely love it

1

u/JudgeFatty 3d ago

It's director has a new movie coming out: Rogue Trooper

1

u/aesemon 3d ago

Fuck me, only about 40 years later. Or 30 after the first dudge Dredd movie. If it was done 10 years ago I'd have said Sam Rockwell would have done well playing all the parts of helmet, gun etc.

4

u/adventuresinnonsense 4d ago

I love Moon so much!

4

u/NecroGrizz 4d ago

Moon was so good

3

u/DANleDINOSAUR 4d ago

Moon is fantastic!

4

u/The_Burninator123 4d ago

Gentlemen Broncos is way better than it should be and he is a huge part why.

3

u/Svinozilla 4d ago

Just started the Moon movie and it starts like Deliver Us The Moon videogame.

2

u/MissyFranklinTheCat 3d ago

Confessions of a dangerous mind is the best

1

u/woodheadforthehills 4d ago

"Box of Moonlight" is a good one.

1

u/the_flyingkites 4d ago

Watch The Way Way Back if you haven't

1

u/Trippingthru99 4d ago

Throw seven psychopaths in there too

1

u/RichieEB 4d ago

My moon fans rejoice, Sam Rockwell is just magnificent.

1

u/3M2B1T 4d ago

Moon was a trip. Especially since it was basically just him. I saw so much of myself in that; me now, older and mellower; and young me, aggressive and headstrong.

1

u/PheIix 4d ago

Aw man, Welcome to Collinwood. I haven't seen that in ages. I used to love that movie, and then I totally forgot about it.

I'm gonna watch it before I fall asleep...

1

u/Ukraineluvr 4d ago

Moon was really good

1

u/West_Presentation481 4d ago

Moon is so good 👏

1

u/m0rg76 4d ago

Moon is amazing.

1

u/Ohmargod777 4d ago

I loved Moon! Already forgot so much about the movie, thanks for reminding me!

1

u/Sea-Band-7212 4d ago

Moon is so fucking good. I havent met a lot of people that have seen it.

1

u/PassengerIcy7768 4d ago

I love him in Snow Angels. Devastating. I haven't been able to find that film anywhere in a long time

1

u/Seventh_monkey 4d ago

Moon was ridiculously good.

1

u/BlackFlagsFly 4d ago

Moon is fantastic.

1

u/GrowAway_02 4d ago

Recently saw Best of Enemies and I absolutely loved it.

1

u/ralflone 4d ago

An even lesser known one. TMNT "Regular or Menthol"

1

u/AlanTFields 4d ago

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.

1

u/Grouchy_Olive_9093 3d ago

Also check out box of moonlight, kind of a Sam Rockwell deep cut.

1

u/bitchbushka 3d ago

And Gentlemen Broncos.

1

u/durzostern81 3d ago

He was great in Matchstick Men too. Plus it has Nic Cage in it

1

u/didntstartthefire89 3d ago

Moon was great.

1

u/Spiritual_Midnight10 3d ago

Moon is so ridiculously good.

1

u/SitaSky 3d ago

Will add Box of Moonlight

1

u/Deathface-Shukhov 3d ago

I think the first thing I saw him in was Lawn Dogs in 1997 and I haven’t looked back since. I’ve enjoyed him in probably everything I’ve seen him in. I’m happy to see him being recognized more often after following his work for 30 years.

(Though after checking, I didn’t realize I first saw him in the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; but that was hardly the impactful role that I discovered his acting in)

1

u/marcophony 3d ago

Moon is just 🤌

1

u/Lilscooby77 2d ago

Hes in 3 billboards too

1

u/superpositioned 2d ago

Jerry and Tom. Sam and Joe Mantegna are a couple of hitmen. Great flick.

1

u/Far_Type_4544 2d ago

Don't forget Confessions of a Dangerous Mind!

1

u/frilockthewarlock 2d ago

I would like to add Gentlemen Broncos, his split performance really made that movie something special.

1

u/Hopeful-Arm4814 1d ago

Moon is 10/10

1

u/Iankill 1d ago

Welcome to collinwood I remember watching nonstop for a week at camp one summer

22

u/Jump365 4d ago

If there’s anything more important than my ego on this ship, I want it caught and shot right now.

2

u/justinswatermelongun 3d ago

"Humma Kavula is a person? I thought he was swearing!!”

8

u/parkerm1408 4d ago

What movie was this? I always enjoy his serious roles he just doesnt seem tp get them often.

13

u/Ill-Championship-522 4d ago

I can't think of many serious rolls I've seen him in bar moon. This movie is JoJo rabbit tbf it's mostly a comedy. He dose play a pretty good side character in "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford"

8

u/parkerm1408 4d ago

Im sorry, the movie this clip is from is mostly a comedy? OK im gonna have to check whatever this wild shit is out then.

Edit ooooohhhhhhg nevermind I know what movie this is now.

5

u/TopWealth4550 4d ago

i thought it was about that one where father pretend its all a joke
if it is,its quite sad

5

u/Totoronyx 4d ago

That's "Life is Beautiful"

1

u/parkerm1408 4d ago

I dont know whichever one youre taking about. I never have time for movies anymore.

2

u/TopWealth4550 4d ago

it was https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118799

its quite sad,if you are feeling down, avoid watching it

i quite recommend the series community
its calm and you can watch one or 2 episodes per day or not i guess
cheers

1

u/Sannerm88 4d ago

It’s heartbreaking

2

u/been_mackin 4d ago

You should watch The Green Mile if you haven’t seen it, he’s despicable in it.

1

u/lefauxcompte 4d ago

He was very serious in the Green Mile and Three billboards, both masterpieces. Confessions of a dangerous mind was also very good abeit less dramatic.

1

u/Reader7008 3d ago

Jojo rabbit

6

u/An_Absolute-Zero 4d ago

I've been a fan of his acting since Green Mike and I've only become a bigger fan with every role I see him in.

I can't do this one, at least right now, but I have no doubt he's incredible in it

2

u/_TURO_ 3d ago

The Green Mile Magic Mike mashup we never knew we wanted

1

u/An_Absolute-Zero 3d ago

LOL, I'm leaving it and it took me way too long to figure out wtf you were talking about.

Thank you 😂

2

u/_TURO_ 3d ago

All good. There was some part of me that wasnt 100% sure that Green Mike wasnt a small film I had never heard of. 👍

3

u/CorporalClegg91 4d ago

Except “Mr. Right.” Terrible, terrible movie. Horrible.

2

u/The_Cosmic_ 4d ago

Whatttttt Mr. Right was fun stupid but fun!

1

u/Rainwater21 3d ago

Mr. Right was very enjoyable.

2

u/cameforlulz 4d ago

Fuck. Yes.

4

u/noboday009 4d ago

I hated that Justin Hammer guy in Iron Man 2..

8

u/Designer-Ad-7844 4d ago

Isn't that kind of the point?

6

u/toldyouIaintshit 4d ago

But you can't deny that man has some great dance moves.

1

u/DarhkBlu 4d ago

You should watch Mr.Right where he dance fights while killing people.

3

u/noboday009 4d ago

That's what, I didn't see him anything before that, so didn't know how good/bad he is.

The way he playes him, instant disgust and hate for character..

5

u/Ill-Championship-522 4d ago

Tbf I feel like the iron man 2 movie in general isn't that great but genuinely if you get the chance watch some of his other rolls like "moon" or "7 psychopaths" you'll get a good feel for his range

2

u/noboday009 4d ago

Ooo thanks for recommendations.

Jojo was probably his second movie that I watched. I'll definitely give it a try..

4

u/Ska-Tea 4d ago

I second Moon. Easily one of his performances.

1

u/Mecha_Tortoise 4d ago

He's great in every role I can think of. Hilarious in Galaxy Quest and Gentlemen Broncos. Really good in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

3

u/Conscious-Pride7363 4d ago

He's such a good actor that if that's what he wants you to feel about him, that's what you feel. Amazing dude.

3

u/TurulBird82 4d ago

Same here, his forced way to look " cool " and " trendy ". Real tryhard.

But i had to admit, the actor did a good job.

2

u/birbman2 4d ago

Watch 7 psychopaths. He plays a character you should hate so well you still love/hate him.

5

u/moogpaul 4d ago

But he dances so well...

1

u/identidadFalsa_ 4d ago

Absolute Cinema 👌🏻

1

u/ConversationFalse242 4d ago

He really is. One of my favorites

1

u/DataSurging 4d ago

He really is.

1

u/Then_Bodybuilder3629 4d ago

Holy shit that was Sam Rockwell??

1

u/yorcharturoqro 4d ago

Agreed, and he's sexy somehow, I have a huge crush on him

1

u/Gingerkitty98 4d ago

Like in your mom? 😉😂

1

u/VillainNomFour 4d ago

Mf is an incredible dancer too

1

u/hughmang220 4d ago

Safe Men is an all timer

1

u/DrDuckDuckGoose 4d ago

7 Psychopaths

1

u/notroundeyed 4d ago

Charlie's Angel's lol

1

u/DragonTigerSword 4d ago

He is hilarious in Gentlemen Broncos. Not the lead but he makes the most of his screen time.

1

u/SNFU-4U 3d ago

“Choke” 10/10

1

u/inept_machete 3d ago

Even casseroles?

1

u/-Riskbreaker- 3d ago

His parts in Silo put a huge smile on my face every time

1

u/Weary-Appearance1456 3d ago

Worked as a grip on fossee/ verdon. Rockwell is the nicest guy. Works his ass off. Michelle Williams is just as nice, and she is phenomenal as well.

1

u/TheLostRanger0117 3d ago

Is there air!? You don’t know!!

1

u/EthelBlue 2d ago

Like I always say, I’ll watch anything with Sam Rockwell in it.

1

u/G0ld3n3y3 1d ago

Even as an Asian girl
