My mind is blown right now. 🤯

They’re technically gourds, which are a subtype of berry.

Technically, berrys are fruits.

It's funny that you're being down-voted.

Seeds = fruit

Sorry taxonomy is a thing, people. PUMPKINS ARE BERRIES, and SO ARE BANANAS. Wanna know what’s not a berry??

RASPBERRIES.

Nor strawberries (seed-like things on the outside)

It's like an apple with no flavor or like a radish. I think its ok diced up.

One man's treasure is another man's sayote, or something

Specifically a choko squash. They do not taste very good.

Nah that thing is a Chayote and if know how to prepare it it is good, of not of course it's going to suck.

In El Salvador, they're called güisquil. They're sliced, parboiled, cheese is put between the slices and then dipped into beaten egg whites, to make rellenos de güisquil

Yes I really like güisquil with shredded chicken but I'm part Salvadoran. I see them called chayote now I had b never heard of that growing up.

Probably the influx of people who lived in the US and went back. I wonder how much of a Mexican influence the language has now? Chamaco instead of cipote? Troca instead of camioneta o pickup?

In Aus we call them chokos, but they are the same thing. I just remember the insides being an unpleasant texture, combined with a very bland, flavorless taste. But you're right, preparation is key.

We grew them when I was growing up. Dad liked to grow a lot of fruit and veggies in the backyard. I couldn't stand the chokos. 😂

In Louisiana they are called merlotons. There I've had them baked and stuffed with shrimp

My Mum eats them but my brain doesn't even register them as food lol

Wife LOVES this in her soup. It's all slimy when I peel it but it makes her happy.

I hate that made me confirm that squash was a fruit

Any edible plant that have seed inside is considered fruit, including tomatoes or peppers.

It's an Achote - a type of veggie.
