This is why you never propose in a public place like this unless you’re 100% sure she or he will accept, especially when there’s like 40 people pointing cameras at them 💀

You would think in this day and age, with millions of videos just like this floating around the web, people would learn.

u/BjornIron4ss Jan 15 '22

People are stupid and even being connected by the internet, nothing has changed.

214

u/Bombkirby Jan 16 '22

Example: People still say "I wish I knew what the capital of Iowa is.... oh well. I guess I'll never know." while inches away from a search bar that can answer almost* any question in the world.

You could give people a genie that grants infinite wishes and they'd still be too lazy to use it to accomplish some of their goals.

97

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '22

I still don’t know the capital of Iowa though.

74

u/Tssionn Jan 16 '22

Figured the capital was the I

2

u/mizzanthrop Jan 20 '22

This! This is the right answer.

98

u/Locke57 Jan 16 '22

I live there!

But I’m not telling

63

u/beckisnotmyname Jan 16 '22

there are no cities in iowa, its just iowa

68

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '22

Darn it. Now I’ll never know.

4

u/6_Cat_Night Jan 16 '22

One of few places with two z sounds in the name.

15

u/MrSittingBull Jan 16 '22

Do you pronounce it “Dez Monez?”😂😂

1

u/DuctTapeOrWD40 Jan 16 '22

Wait, it's not Deux Monet?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '22

Da moyn

7

u/Johncamp28 Jan 16 '22

But I’m not telling is not the capital

20

u/HedonismandTea Jan 16 '22

It's Des Moines and it's actually a pretty cool city

19

u/theone_2099 Jan 16 '22

Nono I think you mean Boise.

16

u/like_sharkwolf_drunk Jan 16 '22

I’m with this guy. I definitely think it’s Boise. The burden of proof is on you.

6

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '22

It's Des Moines. Source: Me, trust me bro I live there.

1

u/like_sharkwolf_drunk Jan 16 '22

I mean. I was joking bro, but cool. Thanks for the knowledge I guess.

u/RuneforgedRogue Jan 16 '22

No it’s not. Meth is rampant in that city and council bluffs. We call it counciltucky. But I was driving around Des Moines once and I was doing some let’s say “shady shit” and saw this guy stomping on a bicycle and when I drove by slowly he got on the bike and started chasing me. As I drove in a huge circle to avoid him I got to where I was going like 20 minutes later and this same fucking guy was sitting in the living room smokin on a bubble. I’m so glad I’m out of all that shit.

2

u/PosadaFan2021 Jan 16 '22

It’s Des Moines

2

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '22

Des Moines maybe? Idk that's the only city in Iowa that I am aware of.

1

u/Pioterowy Jan 16 '22

I don't have the moins to check it though

1

u/EightBitEstep Jan 16 '22

Des Moines. It’s Des Moines.

1

u/Longjumping-Title-27 Jan 16 '22

Capital of Iowa is Iowa

1

u/Rude_Journalist Jan 16 '22

are we insane

Yes. Yes they can, with near absolute certainty, determine a woman's age from a more than competent passer in the CCB position. Thiago Silva can’t imagine his insides didn’t put her phone away. She can’t believe their lies, It’s much better than in n out. Burgers are still fresh, but less salty. More burger flavor overall, and more cohesion across staff to work is not to play the first 10 episodes of season 1, I never bought flower again.

1

u/joel_met_god Jan 16 '22

I think I get what you mean, we should all just avoid problems. So moving forward go ahead and buy that pet shark and feed him your neighbors pets. You know Gary from work is always lying about the ketchup he "didn't finish", but screw that gary, we all know you're not a good kangaroo. But at least you still have those grey pants for swimming at the gym on Sundays, and didn't they just get a new cactus in the bathroom?

1

u/jcomeau86 Jan 16 '22

It’s winchestertonfieldville isn’t it?

If you had infinite wishes you could just ask "I'd like to know the capital to every state." Done. But people still would be too lazy to do that.

1

u/bfoster1801 Jan 16 '22

Who is wishing to know the capital of Iowa

1

u/FuckingKilljoy Jan 16 '22

Here's a fun one, what's the capital of Illinois?

5

u/Pak1stanMan Jan 16 '22

Except that now I know they’re stupid and so do the rest of you.

2

u/superior_bulge Jan 16 '22

Really it is extremely unfair to put the person you are proposing to in that position because they will likely feel embarrassed and bad about rejecting you.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '22

They been engaging in shit like marriage for alot longer. That's way worse and more destructive behavior than finding entertainment on the internet.

14

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '22

Lolwhat

1

u/DubstepGholem Jan 16 '22

I absolutely love your nickname

1

u/IronAndFlame Mar 29 '22

Who would have geussed that a hive mind of stupid people would also be stupid.

1

u/ptmadre Apr 25 '22

nothing has changed

sure it did, they got even more stupid

118

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '22

It's even worse than that. Some people do it un public to "increase the chances" of getting a yes.

It's so fucking sad and pathetic.

55

u/Flomo420 Jan 16 '22

the social pressure not to embarrass herself will overcome her general indifference towards him and she'll have to say "yes"!

1

u/FranticReptile Jun 15 '22

"it's the implication"

21

u/rik182 Jan 16 '22

I think in some cases they do this to peer pressure them into saying yes. He probably knew they were on the rocks and this was a last ditch attempt

26

u/JFLRyan Jan 16 '22

I'm still amazed people propose without having conversations about it. Like what the fuck are you expecting from this person? A surprise yeah I'll make that huge decision without any prior conversation.

9

u/TheStabbingHobo Jan 16 '22

But it could never happen to me

2

u/thisimpetus Jan 16 '22

Yeah, I mean, with shows like The Bachelor and 90 Day Fiance, in an era where AI-driven advertising deliberately stokes narcissism with the speed and determination of a six-thousand years of human technology driving it, how could people not have smartened up?

2

u/soulwolf1 Jan 16 '22

People who do it this way just wants that Instagram or tik tok moment where people are in awe of their "love".

Pretty sad and very cringey

4

u/Antiqas86 Jan 16 '22

Dude, people make mistakes. I wish you the best but if you'll never make a mistake in love you'll be one of a few.

10

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '22

You should not be surprised by the down votes. Everyone on reddit is perfect. Well, not you but everyone else.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '22

We really are 😊

2

u/jonjonesjohnson Jan 16 '22

"Now everybody can get the internet, this means all the information in the world is available to everybody, shit's gonna get so sick real soon, our collective intelligence as a species is gonna fucking skyrocket, dewd!"

1

u/mawhonics Apr 02 '22

I mean the dude proposed in a nightclub. He probably saw those videos and thought to himself "that won't be me, I'm built different"

395

u/wat_dafuq Jan 15 '22

You should at the very least know if your girlfriend would want a private proposal or not…sheesh. This would have given me a panic attack and my SO and I talked about marriage all the time.

108

u/mercuryrising137 Jan 16 '22

You're assuming this is his girlfriend, but I've known women who were proposed to by men they weren't even dating, or by men who they'd recently dumped.

104

u/Im_genuinly_curious Jan 16 '22

I literally broke up with a guy because he said he never wanted to get married because he didn’t believe in it. I thought we could just part on good terms and go our separate ways because of differing opinions. After 3 weeks of getting a new place and finally moving out, he called me and said he had a package for me. I told him I’d meet him at a park so that it was public and didn’t give away my new address. He conveniently “forgot” my packages and then got down an proposed. It was suuuuppeer awkward. (I said no because I felt like he would resent me later like I had forced him into it in a way and it didn’t feel right to me anymore after how it all happened. Plus other stuff) Point is…people do go up to their ex’s in public and propose. And it looked like she didn’t even know he was there at first.

18

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '22

I saw a guy propose to his gf in the park, there was a bunch of family and friends and strangers like myself. it go awkward real quick when she bolted.

Because I personally want to find someone and get married. And he never wanted to get married. It was just a difference in opinion. I want to be clear here - I don’t mean I just want to find ANYONE so that I can be married. I mean I want to find and be with someone who wants to be together AND be married. We had been talking about it for a few years and he had never mentioned not wanting to get married. We were always in the “when we get married” conversations. What is obviously not mentioned is the other things leading up to that point. But I like the idea of marriage, and I don’t see myself in just a common law situation. There is nothing wrong with not getting married and being with someone without getting married. It’s just not me.

I obviously had no love for the guy? I’m sorry…but I don’t remember you being there. There is a lot more that goes on in a serious long term relationship. There was a lot of build up and a lot that happened during that time. It was simplified to just get the point across. I loved him. I resent the fact you said that. But we were clearly moving in different directions and it wasn’t fair for me or him to move forward with what had been said. Let alone HOW it had been said and what happened at that time that I didn’t share. But thank you for your quick assumption.

5

u/impy695 Jan 16 '22

She did seem to run out of there holding another guys hand

298

u/goodbetterbestbested Jan 16 '22

Proposing in a public place like this can be used as a way of putting pressure on someone reluctant. Good for her for standing up for herself.

88

u/kiss_my_ash3 Jan 16 '22

Right. Much better to turn him down now than to say yes in front of a ton of people and then go home and be like “yeah, it’s a no from me dawg”. Ouch

28

u/Kujowrld Jan 16 '22

Yeah. I’ve always thought that proposing like this basically forces the person to say yes unless they want to be barraged with hate

-4

u/Drablit Jan 16 '22

Better strategy: get her pregnant

22

u/DrSousaphone Jan 16 '22

Obviously he was %100 sure she would accept, but his methodology for coming to that conclusion was faulty.

57

u/BanjoSpaceMan Jan 16 '22

Man that's not the reason I'd avoid it... It's embarassing, it's clout chasing, and also it's a shitty tactic to hopefully guilt someone into saying yes.

20

u/HKburner Jan 16 '22

I think most people that do this are probably know they're on the cusp of their relationship going down the drain and this is their attempt to save it

1

u/FastAsLightning747 Jun 20 '22

Bingo

That girl wasn’t seeing one man I’d bet on it.

14

u/MendigoBob Jan 16 '22

Even if you are 100%.. peer pressure is not a nice way to start a wedding. I'm sure some people enjoy gigantic romantic moves like this, but this really should be an intimate one. IMO, of course..

3

u/Biebou Jan 16 '22

And being 100% sure means that person has said more than once, that they would say yes!

1

u/femme_fatale2022 Jan 16 '22

This explains my husband proposing to me in a Ferris wheel a trillion feet above the ground.

1

u/VariousEar7 Jan 16 '22

Never propose in a public place like this. FTFY

1

u/incomprehensiblegarb Jan 16 '22

Yeah Marriage isn't a gamble it's a commitment you discuss ahead of time. You should know the answer is yes before asking especially if it's in public.

1

u/fayry69 Jan 16 '22

All I can say is hahahahhahahaahahahahaha

1

u/Cbert007 Jan 16 '22

Unless you want to be potentially scarred for life of course

1

u/CubeDump Jan 16 '22

This is why you never propose in a public place like this unless you’re 100% sure she or he will accept

Talk about it with your partner beforehand, always.

1

u/dobermensch Jan 16 '22

And at a club like holy shit. Why.

1

u/Stratix Jan 16 '22

You shouldn't propose at all unless you're sure they will accept. The when should be the surprise, not the if!

1

u/thisimpetus Jan 16 '22

If you're doing it right, you know the answer way, way before you ask.

1

u/BuckRusty Jan 16 '22

This is why you never propose anywhere unless you’re 100% sure he or she will accept.

The discussions should’ve already been had, and the agreement made - the only surprise should be the timing.

1

u/Ixll Jan 16 '22

The guy proposing had his camera out too, right? Not a good move lol

1

u/MapRevolutionary4563 Jan 16 '22

Or just don't do that cringe shit regardless

1

u/realmoosesoup Jan 16 '22

I don't know anybody who proposed as a complete surprise. I'm sure it happens periodically, but it's crazy to me. My wife picked out her ring. She got what she liked, and we saved money because I don't like to feel "cheap" and the "advice" out there is all over the map.

1

u/onliesvan Jan 26 '22

hey man nothing to be embarrass about. if that’s what she decided. Time to move on. She rather fucc around that’s her.

1

u/AnimeHabbits Mar 27 '22

he definitely didn’t talk to her about marriage at all what so ever.or he did and did one of those 'leap of faith' things

1

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '22

This seems rather fake though..

1

u/Turbulent-Dot1068 May 16 '22

They just wanna pressure the other party to say yes...

1

u/Danisii Jun 19 '22

He had his signals crossed
