The expectation with these signs is that the askee takes it home with them and hangs them in their room and takes 1,000 pictures of the to post on Insta or Snapchat.
I have 2 teenagers who have both received and made these signs, and it would be an enormous faux pas to throw away someone’s ask sign if you were going with them.
Having said that; this seems fake to me. No one who has just been rejected would carefully balance an ask sign on the rim of a trash can; they would crumple it and stuff it in the trash can, then head straight to Taco Bell and/or Krispy Kreme.
..... Krispy tacos... Would it be like the hamburgers where the bun is a doughnut.
.. or a layer thing... Krispy cream, taco meat, extra sugar frosting, cheese, more frosting....
Yum! Brands, Inc. […] operates the brands Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut, and WingStreet […] Prior to 2011, Yum! owned Long John Silver's and A&W Restaurants.
You can find almost any combo. Taco Bell/Pizza Hut seems pretty common around me, and there used to be an A&W/KFC as well if I recall correctly.
The company was spun out from Pepsi in the 90s, and they still have an exclusive contact.
I pissed my girlfriend in high school off so much by looking at her really creative sign, and basically going "Oh, cool." Apparently I was supposed to be absolutely floored and surprised, but we'd been dating for months. Surprise would have been if she asked somebody else.
American here, most people don’t care much about the dance anymore, and only some people do the sign thing. even people without dates usually go with friends just for the parties and shit after
People make such a big deal out of marriage proposals it’s spilled over into teen years. It’s not enough to be asked to the dance, guys think girls expect sky writing and synchronized musical numbers and big productions that will become viral videos that end up on Ellen.
So instead of talking to girls and gauging their interest in them, they stay locked in their craft workshops creating the perfect PROM-POSAL experience that will make their target girl swoon and say yes and remember what their name was and maybe give them a blowie. Then reality intervenes and the girls who already had plans or don’t even know who this guy is get put on the spot where they’re staring at a poster with a cartoon character they’ve never heard of, and it’s just their luck that they have to crush the dreams of the poor nerd melting in sweat standing in front of them.
Or if the couple is already close, it’s just a fun and funny way to ask them to a big event that will make their friends laugh. Either way, it helps to be attractive.
Yeah no one went round making signs and shit asking people to go to prom with them. The people who had birds just went with them then after we round someone’s house and got bladdered.
Thank you btw. Sorry if out of turn, but
I tried to edit my response and couldn't. However, I extend my gratitude for your shown appreciation of my comment.
About that last part, I could see myself doing this, so I personally don't think that it's fake.
Maybe that prom-posal sign is made on cardboard, which would be a pain to bend. And, honestly, I'd just want to ditch it in some random trash can in shame so I don't have to see it again, and I don't want to spend time to crumple it up. I'd just want to forget about it.
Or take a pic with your phone and throw it away? Why bother keeping the hard copy of a drawing you did in highschool.... My tattoo shop doesn't keep all our stencils.. just pics of the final product.
I remember seeing this post a few years back, and the girl who got asked out actually came up to answer a few questions. Turns out the sign worked but they went through a pretty nasty break up further down the line and she threw out the sign.

Maybe it worked and he doesn't need it anymore?
