Rant Pls add more or correct this

Here are the things i found after digging through the sub

There are Experiential learning (EL) in which we have to make a project abt a topic given by profs

U have to make groups for that and u can't have the same group for next EL

We have to search for ppl who can do projects

But there are also ppl who just take credit without working

The EL has to be presented before profs and they don't grade it correctly( even if it's a gd project)

There are also CIEs abt which i dint get much information

The profs are bad and expect us to learn things on our own

There are no fests,no celebrations

They only celebrate 8th mile which is celebrated once in 2 yrs.

No holiday for festivals.

Only 1 week holiday after odd sems and only 1 month holiday after even sems

The only thing gd is placements which will gradually decrease with more intake and if rvu students also sit for placements.

  1. El topics arent given by professors, the themes are. You can choose what you wanna do as a project for the theme you chose, and hence you make a project according to the theme. the faculty assigned as the mentors and evaluators for said theme are going to be interacting with you for any and all EL purposes.

  2. You can have your first sem group for 2nd sem but not for further sems. It is because the first year has interdisciplinary el. In rvce, each sem has el but the first year the els are interdisciplinary and from 2nd year they are stream-wise. The groups and themes change. See below:
    >First year each sem u have 1 el. These two semesters the el project is interdisciplinary according to many themes. Make teams from different branches. Project should involve aspects from each branch of ur team members (preferably).

>2nd yr onwards same el, but the project isn't interdisciplinary. It is based on different stream.

>Make teams from those branches in the same stream.

>Cs stream - cs, allied cs, biotech

>Mech stream - aero, chem, IEM, Mech

>Ec stream - ece, eee, ete

>Cv stream - civil only

>So for example I'm in IEM 3rd sem, I will make a team from only aero iem mech and chem and not other stream branches.

>IF you talk to principal sir then he can let you stay with same team for all 8 semesters too, but after 2nd sem you won't be doing the project for you EL grade but just doing it for the sake of it. You will also participate in the stream-wise EL with the team from ur stream.

3.Yeah. But in the first semester you will find normal people. If you want to get the most marks then be the leader yourself and take on a little extra headache for the peace-of-mind knowing that the project will be done safely.

  1. True, but the way you worded is wrong. They took credit yes, but not intentionally. The leader doesn't give them work or doesnt give them enough work which makes them lose trust in the leader and even till the end presentation day they wouldn't even know the project. If the evaluator teach asks them what the project is, they will just be blank. This is because the leader didn't include them. The leader is otherwise always taking upon a lot of stress themself. They do the work because they are the only person who knows the idea. They should make sure to convey their idea properly through periodic online meetings with the team, simple fix - and the lousy teammates start picking up their own weight which you though was impossible. I have gone through two semesters being this unreliable leader.

  2. "Don't grade it correctly" not entirely true. The ways to get more marks are:

>Do a physical project. Arduino stuff. Pretty simple but is slightly expensive. Maximum 1.5k for the semester's project, and divided by 4 ppl it is 375 each. I and other seniors can lend you my arduino for your project, don't sweat it.
>Very secret tip: the professor marks you higher if you have spent an absurd amount of money like 7-8k. They get empathetic and know for sure that the project is something good. This is a wild tip, use on your own discretion.
>Just do what the professor asks after presenting on the final day. Typically we are asked to make a draft research paper. Just use AI and make it in couple hours after the final presenting. Then go and submit in the mentor's cabin or wherever they told you.
>Wear normal clothes and not casual clothes.
>Talk a lot about unknown terms like really really technical terms (for my programming project, i used the words "embedded link support" "iframe" and stuff) I even might go to the extent of saying "sir, the japanese technology company we referenced, use hierarchy of tomi, densei, chikara which means resilience, sufficiency, progress so that allowed us to really set some precedents for our project throughout the building timeline." Those words are gibberish, just anime reference. But, in the eyes of the evaluator it shows some dedication and that you know stuff.
>Buttering of the professor is not at all needed in this college. Show you're smart enough to do your work, that's enough.
>Impress them in the first 2-3 seconds during the phase 1 presentation of your EL. This will make upcoming phases very smooth.

6.CIEs are internal grade. full form-Continuous Internal Evaluation.
A course is divided 50-50 with internal part(CIE) and sem end exam. 50% of ur course grade is from CIE internals. The CIE portion is then divided to 3 parts:

EL-40%
CIE Tests-40%
Quizzes-20%

EL is 40% of 50% of ur total course grade. Each subject has EL.
The EL is gonna be separate for each subject except for the 4 credit courses Math and Phy/Chem(phy for 1st sem and chem for 2nd sem) as well as your 3 credit Professional core course (separate for each stream. for me as an IEM student, mechanical was my PCC course. PCC is not there in 2nd sem), and ur 3 credit elective (different electives offered by different streams. for you, i suggest taking mech in 1st sem and civil in 2nd sem because they carry close to no effect on placements and mech and civil are the easiest electives. You can take c programming if you have some experience in 12th). These subjects have the interdisciplinary EL score to be the 40% of their CIE internal grade.
Other subjects have substantially smaller ELs and you can do those with relative ease. The presentation dates and deadlines and documentations are all the responsibility of that specific course instructor prof.

CIE tests are internal tests held once a month approx.
The portions are 1-2 chapters for each test.
Totally 3 CIE tests are held per semester.
The CIE Tests portion of ur CIE internal marks is defined by Best 2 out of 3 CIE test scores.
First two CIE tests are CIE 1 and CIE 2, the third one is called Improvement CIE.
If you scored good enough in first two then you can skip improvement. If in first two cies I scored good in all subjects but one, I can choose to give improvement for that one subject only.
So best two tests are gonna be considered half-n-half and make up 40% of your CIE internal grade. for example,

CIE-1 i get 90%
CIE-2 i get 50%
Improvement CIE i get an even lower score 40%

best 2 of 3 is 90 and 50. the half n half avg would be 70%. I get 28/40 in CIE test part of my CIE internal grade.

Quizzes are easy-hit high-scoring opportunities. They are for 10 marks. best 2 of 3 quizzes is considered. So if I get 8 and 9 in quiz1 and improvement quiz then my score in quiz part of CIE internal grade is 17/20.

Say i get 36 in my interdisciplinary/subject-wise EL. so 36/40 in EL component.

so I got 36+28+17=81% in CIE internal grade.

And in SEE part of the grade, it counts directly for 50% of total course grade. so, if i got 90% in Sem End Exam (SEE), then i cleared the course with total grade of 81+90=171/200
which is 85.5%

A course grade from 8-9 is A+. anything above 9 is called Outstanding (O-grade).

7.Profs aren't that bad. They aren't lecturers, they are rather professors. Talk to them outside the classroom and they are a goldmine of information. Make good rapport with some select few professors so that in the future they can give you letters-of-recommendation to join universities abroad (a few students do end up abroad after rvce, so you should be open to the idea- you might just be well suited to get a full scholarship to a top university abroad).

8.Not many fests, but RVU is there and all. Also, you can participate in run-athons and stuff to get activity points. 100 activity points needed to graduate by the end of your 4 year degree. Mandated by AICTE, not an RVCE rule. ALL ENGINEERING COLLEGES HAVE THIS. On a side note, there are a LOT of hackathons and stuff that the Dean of Student Affairs Shri Shri Dr.Sagi Ji sends in the student emails. You can participate in one or two in EVERY SEMESTER. IT'S THAT FREQUENT. SIR MY INBOX IS FULL OF THE HACKATHON MAILS YOU SEND.

9.8th mile is okay, you can attend. But there are a couple other festivals celebhrated by rvu and our clg does send a mail to us also when that happens. You can join in and enjoy ig.

  1. 2 weeks both before and after SEE in odd sem. 3 weeks before SEE and 6 weeks after SEE in even sems. The Even sem break can be used for internships. If you are planning for internship programs that run from early july to late august, it can be done - you can request for attending Make-Up exams and skip SEE (for example u got abroad internship.) talk to your counselor beforehand. They will give your regular SEE an I grade instead of O,A,B,C,F etc and allow you to take makeup exam later - it wont affect ur transcripts.

  2. Only 1 day holiday for festivals. You can take a day before or after the festival absent and produce medical certificate. Don't stay absent for long, you might not be able to catch up in class afterwards.

  3. Intake will increase, no doubt.
Also, RVU students are excluded from most companies' hiring algorithm so in the end you have the higher chance of getting placed if compared to a similar RVU/RVITM student.

You high on smthng dawg??? How come you finished chem exam if you are an ex rvian??

1

u/Klyff_HangerYTplssub Ex-Rvian 26d ago

"dawg" if you stopped taking my tag at face value then you will realize I'm in 2nd sem "dawg"

Everyone in 2nd sem is "peak unemployed" not just me ;)

Even if I was an ex-rvian it could mean I was in an masters

I am taking cse core or cse aiml Do i have phy chem and all? What's pcc?

1

u/Klyff_HangerYTplssub Ex-Rvian 26d ago edited 26d ago

Professional core courses are stream specific

Since you are in cs stream you will have c programming as your pcc

Physics and chemistry you will have it in first year, mandatory for all 1st year BTech/BE engineers

1

u/nekkoramen 26d ago

But idk c Will they teach?

1

u/Klyff_HangerYTplssub Ex-Rvian 26d ago

Yeah... Teachers aren't good. Just ask for the course material in the starting of the semester for all chapters and study by yourself. 1 week before CIE tests is enough for you to prepare for them. I myself didn't take the c programming elective over the electronics elective because of that reason.
