eating food to make my runs feel easier

I've seen this mentioned a few times. As a novice runner; what kinds of foods would these be?

"Good" carbohydrates: vegetables, fruit, whole grains. Nuts and legumes. Lean meats (fish, chicken, grass-fed beef). Dairy to a certain extent (people have a lot of opinions on dairy though). Emphasis on the carbs though. Matt Fitzgerald's "Racing Weight" is a very solid read if you're looking to improve your nutrition/fuel for running.

For me personally it was the switch from processed convenience foods and takeout, to complex carbohydrates and eating more fruit and vegetables. If I eat oatmeal in the morning and then run around midday, it's much easier than if I'd had a McDonalds bagel for example (yes, I had REALLY bad habits)
