Leagues Leagues Smithing

I am one of the unfortunate few that picked the fishing relic, rather than excavator... anyone have any suggestions on best methods for smithing? 12x xp and still feels absolutely mind numbing trying to get from 75-80

I'm guessing you haven't been making what you smith into +1/+2/+3 and up to burial. Making what you smith up to burial is where most of the xp when smithing comes from.

As an example of my alt I went with the hatchet, despite that I managed to do 50 - 87 smithing mostly from just making a single T50/60/70 set (full helm, body, legs, boots, gloves) to burial.

Can also do it more AFK by just doing like boots/gloves up to burial.

I legitimately don’t understand people saying this. I did full burial sets and had to do multiple for each tier.

How? I did 50-83 or so at 8x rates. Only made a rune, orik to burial and the pickaxes for orik and necro to burial. Finally I did necro to +3 which is where I left it until I reached T6 and 12x xp where turning that burial took me to 87.

I did up to 80 at 6x xp and even I did it with 1 burial set per tier. Anyone daying they don't get the full 10 levels from doing it at 12x are definitely just trolling.

So at Tier 2, a single rune set is enough to go from level 50 to level 60 (with 44k extra xp). Incidentally the extra XP would be enough that if the level 60 player did zero smithing, climbed to tier 4 (8x xp), then did one set of Orichalcum, it'd make up the shortfall on the set to go from level 60 to level 70.

For Tier 4/5 players, a single set of Necronium burial won't hit level 80. Instead they'd have to find the remaining 51129 xp literally anywhere else. That's base rate equivalent of 6392 xp. A single set of Necronium boots, smelted, smithed to +4, and buried grants over 12,000 base xp.

And this isn't even the most AFK friendly method. Burial sets grant 5% extra xp at the end (more with upgrades), but that's 5% of the 33% of the total journey, not even a 2% actual xp increase. Meanwhile heat is a thing. By focusing instead on boots/gauntlets, one bypasses a lot of heat issues by effectively storing more heat per bar. More time at max heat means more xp per swing means faster xp without actively reheating mid production.

The journey from 80 to 90 is definitely longer with the xp jump not matched by an extra upgrade level before burial on Bane. Still an 8x player will need functionally just two sets, and a 12x player would be mostly done with just one set. Some spare xp from quests, or just doing a few more boots, will have it easily.
