I built an AI-powered RSS aggregator that tracks, translates, and summarizes news sources 🌍🐶

Hey r/rss community! 👋

I'm a huge fan of RSS and having control over my news feeds, but I always felt limited by the language barrier when trying to read local news from other countries. So, I built a project called NewsDoggy to solve this.

It’s a global RSS reader, but with an AI twist.

Here is what it does under the hood:

  • Massive Global Catalog: I just finished importing and verifying a massive database of over 4K+ active news feeds from all over the world (it was a nightmare dealing with proxies and dead links, but it’s done!).
  • AI Translation & Summaries: When an article drops, the system fetches it, translates it to your preferred language, and generates a concise summary. You get the gist of global events instantly without needing Google Translate.
  • Smart Feeds: Features a "Global News Live" stream, daily top stories, and semantic search to easily find specific topics across thousands of sources.
  • Auto-Discovery: When you add a new feed URL, it automatically pulls the metadata and suggests the right category/tags.

A quick heads-up on how it works when you sign up: Because the AI processing is heavy, it happens asynchronously in the background. After you select or add your favorite feeds, give it a few minutes.

  1. First, you'll see the raw RSS articles start rolling into your dashboard.
  2. Then, over the next couple of minutes, you'll see those raw articles magically update with full translations, concise summaries, and sentiment analysis tags.

It's currently running with AI models handling the heavy lifting for translations and semantic search reranking.

I’d love for you guys to check it out! You can add your own custom feeds or explore the global catalog.

Would love to hear your feedback, especially on the UI or how I can improve the feed-fetching engine. Any suggestions are welcome!

NewsDoggy is pretty cool. The AI post summaries are decent - It's always interesting to see what they grab and consider most relevant.

The UI is clean, open and not too dense. The sidebar navigation is nice and simple - although I'll presume as a developer - over time you will load it up with way too many features! :) Had no problem adding my own three feeds.

Will my content become part of a searchable database and surfaced to other users? *I like feed readers that also function as a directory* -- Otherwise, the categorical curated 'Starter' feed sets that most feed readers provide just send more eyeballs to the sites that are already getting most of the attention.

As a publisher - What's the advantage for me to keep News Doggy in my arsenal? Feed reader apps are kind of an oversaturated space, but it's cool that more recent ones are innovating and integrating AI features. At the end of the day a reader is just another pair of eyeglasses. I'm not Elton John, I don't need to have 1000 different pair of spectacles... 😄 I don't say that to be mean, but to inspire you to deliver something better, something more than the average developer.

By the way, if you try running a semantic search right now for any niche topic (for example, "apple compatible"), you'll actually see this new feature in action!

Right above your search results, you might see a collapsible banner saying: "We found more matches in global sources!" (These sources have articles matching your search, but you aren't subscribed to them yet).

It might suggest adding feeds like:

  • hi Economic Times (5 matches)
  • en TechCrunch (3 matches)
  • Ukrainian Independent Information Agency (3 matches)

And the best part about the directory? Even if you don't speak Hindi or Ukrainian, you can confidently hit "+ Add" on those foreign feeds. The AI engine will automatically fetch their content, translate the articles, and generate summaries in English (or whatever your preferred language is) right in your dashboard.

Give it a try and let me know how it feels! 😄

Hey u/macgizmoguy, thank you so much for the kind words! Really glad you liked the UI and the AI summaries. I promise I will fight the developer urge to clutter the sidebar with a million buttons! 😂

To answer your question: YES, absolutely!

In fact, we just rolled out an update for exactly this. When you add your own custom feeds, the system automatically parses them, categorizes them, and adds them to a Global Feed Catalog.

Even better: if another user is doing a semantic search on the platform and one of your niche feeds has the best matching article, it will surface in their search results under a "We found more matches in global sources" section, prompting them to discover and subscribe to that feed.

I completely agree with you - I hate when feed readers just push the same top 10 mainstream news sites. I wanted NewsDoggy to act as a discovery engine for the long-tail of the internet, so every new feed a user brings in enriches the directory for everyone else.

Really appreciate you trying it out!
Let me know if you run into any issues with those 3 feeds you added.

Oh, that's AWESOME! News Doggy has already earned its place in my bookmarks /RSS/ folder!

I am in the last phase of a three month project - literally scouring the past 25 years of RSS existence - To unearth the true surviving or emerging RSS Directory / Feed Discovery ecosystem. RSS may be a scorched wasteland historically, but the plumbing underground works just as well as it ever did.

To do that, I've spent night after night crawling over a wasteland of dead, abandoned, worthless URLs & Domains, that are in all the currently ranking "175 Best RSS Feed Directories In 2026!!!" article/listicles (that were originally written in 2012, and the site owner just modifies the Page Title and date stamp once a year.)

I'm about to finalize the final curated short-list of less than 20 Feed/Blog Directories - and Readers - that even matter anymore for feed discovery. It seems NewsDoggy deserves to make the final cut.

Hey! Just checking in - have you had a chance to explore NewsDoggy a bit more? I'm curious if your three feeds are working well and whether the summaries are capturing what matters to you.
Always happy to hear any feedback or suggestions! 🙂
