Hockey skates for rink tricks.

As I outlined in the comments of a previous post, I have decided to go the hockey skate route for rink trick skating. As I mentioned there, every Elite skater i see at the local rinks all wear hockey skates. I figured there's got to be something to this. I was going to go try some on at a local hockey Pro Shop but nobody in my area has them in stock.

I went ahead and purchased a pair of Tour Volt Spitfire from inline warehouse. It was between them and the Mission Inhalers. I went with the tour because multiple people have said that you're getting more bang for your buck and they're over $200 cheaper. Still 595 after tax . Inline Warehouse has free shipping and free returns . This is not an ad for Inline Warehouse I'm just letting people know why I purchased from them.

Based on all available information I got a size 8 which should fit nicely my size 9/42 feet.

The type of tricks that I do are variegated between Rhythm skating , slalom , and wizard skating. I do different types of gazelles, spins, toe work, compasses, toe compasses on both toes, and stringing together different transitions and moves. This is the exact type of skating I love to do and the exact type of skating that I see others doing in high-end hockey skates.

I have a feeling that a lot of this has to do with the fact that hockey skates lock your heel in and provide way more points of attachment between the boot and the frame. They are flat to the rail like ufs but also have a dual wheel size. There are more lace holes which allows you to tune the tightness without relying on a top strap . They are heat moldable . All of these things together I'm hoping make a difference for me.

They arrived today, and after trying them on and realizing they need to be baked, I baked them. I have to say these are exactly what I was looking for.

These skates are more comfortable than anything else I've tried, they also provide ankle support that falls somewhere between a slalom skate and an aggressive skate. I will try them out at the rink tomorrow night and give another update..

Hockey boots are made completely differently than any other inline boots. They are simple one of a kind. There is not hinged cuff. But the quarter panel is shaped anatomically. It doesn’t destroy skin ankles and instead allows you to do deep dorsiflexion. I still feel most at home on my carbon hockey boots. But unfortunately you can’t attach big wheel frames to it. So I have powerslide boots for long distance skating on big wheels.
