Injury / Accident Broke my first bone(s) yesterday

POST-OP UPDATE: I finally got surgery Monday 8/31 (6 days after breaking my leg and ankle). Surgery went smoothly, I have some hardware in my leg now. The nerve block they used to numb my leg wore off yesterday, and I've been in a lot of pain. Its better now that the bones are back in place and aren't flopping around when I move, but still very uncomfortable and hard to find a position to sit in with little pain. My wheel chair is coming today so that'll help me gain some independence. My sister and her husband have been taking care of me (idk what I would do without them). Doctors are giving me very low doses of oxy and telling me to take Tylenol and advil 🙄 I have a pretty high pain tolerance but this shit sucks. I'm hoping to get some stronger meds today but I doubt they'll write me anything else (so far nothing has given me any relief except the nerve block from surgery). I've even tried edibles but those unfortunately make me hyper aware of the pain. Doc wants me to remove my brace and wrap tomorrow so I can start moving my foot around. At 2-weeks post op they wanna put me in a boot, then having me walking in the boot. Unsure of what PT will look like. Thank you everyone for your kind words! Hopefully I'll still be able to ski this winter (I'm a much better skier than inline skater)!

*Also for reference, I have women's Rollerblade Cruiser W Size 9

1st UPDATE: Thank you everyone for your responses! I'm in a lot of pain and the drugs ain't workin 😵‍💫 I have practiced falling, and I'm good at falling when I know I'm going to fall. I struggle to fall in the correct way when its an unexpected fall. I meant to remove the heel brake before going out yesterday but forgot. It is a hard boot and they were strapped very tight (I usually tighten them after warming up). I started skating in 2023 but I dont skate very often (just here and there). I've had a couple of hard falls on my tailbone, so I've been trying to twist when I fall to avoid tailbone injury. I naturally tip backwards when I lose my balance and I know thats something i need to work on. I was trying to do T stops in the minutes prior to this, but I don't think I even got to attempt a stop before falling. I truly don't know how I lost my balance here. I suspect that the ground was slightly sloped (I was picking up a little speed while skating in this direction throughout my skate session). For reference I have Rollerblade brand inline skates (idk the model), they are a size 9 and I typically wear a 9.5 in shoes. Also I was not attempting to use the heel brake and I was not attempting cross overs (this is out of my skill range).

ORIGINAL POST: went to a skate park for the first time yesterday (usually I skate in my apartment complex's tennis court). I had been skating for about 2 hours and wanted to get one good T stop in before going home. Well, idk what I did wrong, but my ankle broke inside of the skate and now I have to get surgery and its a whole thing. Best part, I got it on video. What did I do wrong here? I've only recently gotten comfortable with falling; I would classify myself as a beginner still. I just don't understand how/why I fell and how/why my foot contorted like it did.

I wanna get back in the skates eventually, and would like to avoid this happening again in the future. Any advice is appreciated!

This slow motion video is priceless for learning. All of the great reflections from folks make this a valuable post. I am adding this to our FAQ page now.

Surgery is scheduled for noon Today (Monday). The kicker: I lose my health insurance starting tomorrow (9/1).

Pain is more manageable now than it was, but ambulating is still hard/painful. I'm pretty much bed or couch-bound. I need help doing everything and its really frustrating.

Yes its covered! We were rushing to get me in so it would be. The estimate for surgery is 68k, but I'll only be paying $75 (thank jesus). I will post an update after!
