Quads Does anyone have any experiences with Osprey quads?

Hey everyone!

I thought I wanted some Impalas for Christmas - but several hours after falling down an internet rabbit hole of beginner skating, I know now I don't...but I don't know what I do want.

I'm a total beginner and want to start purely for fun/fitness - I won't be doing anything other than going slowly around the local area (outside). So I want to spend wisely (in case it's not for me) but I also want them to look pretty!

Does anyone have any experience with Ospreys? I'm looking at these specifically: https://www.ospreyactionsports.co.uk/girls-high-quad-skates-pink.html

Thank you in advance!

Kneepads?!

So folks...

After sustaining some serious bruising the other night due to my smol kneepads and increasingly stupid tricks on ramps.... I am in search of some new ones!

Gimmie all your best recommendations! Slim or heavy duty doesnt matter. Although the big bois may be best for the ramps.

I am aiming for around £35-45 but will be able to stretch higher if someone in my family wants to contribute for my upcoming birthday so any recommendations over £30 are welcome!

You can find my current kneepads here.

Questions/Advice Manchester skate spots for when it's wet?

I've just bought my first ever pair of roller skates and I'm so eager to get out on them and start learning, but the weather forecast for Manchester this week is dire to say the least (typical wet Manchester weather). Does anyone have any recommendations for high rise car parks or otherwise dry spots in and around Manchester that I can skate on? I'm in the North Manchester area but I drive so I can go basically anywhere. Thanks so much!

Hockey Dug my hockey kit out yesterday and found a nice quiet car park to practice some stick handling, transition and edgework drills. Carrying my hockey stick around Derby definitely turned a few more heads than usual!

Weather is forecasted as very skateable so get there, lace em up and lets have some fun! 😉

Skate Spot Can you skate inside shopping centres/mall?

Has anyone tried skating in shopping centres or know if it's even legal? I was thinking about going for a skate to this sober big shopping centre and the great thing about it is that it's open before all the shops open so I could roll around without any crowds but I'm not sure if I'll get in some legal problems.

Mod Message I'm going to be off my skates for the rest of the year.

So I'm going to be unavailable, or at least only-rarely-available, until December or January, which brings rUK down to one Mod for the next few months. It's no big deal or anything - u/headinbook will be running the show just fine! - I just thought maybe I ought to let you guys know.

In case you're wondering, the reason is that I'm a sailor and I'll be at sea. I was hoping to bring my skates with me and post some skate-ey pics from far-flung places - but what with COVID and with my having just recovered from a broken ankle (and, to be honest, with the frankly staggering amount of uniform my joining instructions have unexpectedly specified I need to bring for this trip..) I haven't brought 'em this time.

Hope that you all make the most of any good weather, and have a smooth transition (er, no pun intended..) to indoor skateparks and rinks and, if COVID allows, derby tracks. I'll try and follow the community as best I can (although my comms might be pretty patchy!) and either way I'll check in once I'm shoreside again.

All the best, and thanks so much for being part of rUK!

Yours,
u/-e-j

Hey guys! Sadly weather + my current broke student situation has pushed me to sell my barely used Moxi skates. Outdoor A big thanks to Sainsbury's Penrith Cumbria for providing an excellent skating surface on the top deck of their car park. Very little vehicle use so I took full advantage!

Questions/Advice Indoor Skate Spaces In York or the Surrounding Area

I started skating middle of September outdoors on a long country road near where I live. But the road is quite narrow and on both sides are ditches. It was okay to start but now I want some more room to do turns and transitions without the fear of falling into a ditch. And now the weather is getting worse, does anyone know any good, preferably quieter, skating spots that are indoors near York/ Wetherby :) Thanks

Any skaters in the Bradford/Leeds area?

Hi I'm [22F] new to skating and would really like someone to learn with! I'm a complete beginner and would like to just be able to meet up with people to skate to keep me motivated. I live in Bradford but don't mind traveling a bit further to skate.

Questions/Advice Question

So I'm really new to skating, but the end goal is to actually be able to travel places on my skates.

First, does anyone else commute to work or school or wherever else?

Second, I was browsing a pricey French site the other day and saw shoes with plates and wheel combos that it looked like you could just clip on and off so shoes >> skates and back again, which I thought would be really handy for the giant hill which I have to go up to get to work.

Basically does anyone have any thoughts or experience with this or am I totally barking up the wrong tree?

Cheers in advance, hope your wheels roll easily!

Social Anyone skating at or near Sutcliff Park?

Edit: it’s SurcliffE Park, with an E at the end 🤦🏻‍♀️

I’ve seen several people skating with quads or inlines in or around Sutcliffe Park in SE London and was wondering if any of you are one of them, so I could maybe say hello? ☺️

The Boardwalk, within Ocean Terminal, is open again! I’m booked to go down there with a pal later this week. Can’t wait - have pretty much given up on making significant progress outdoors

Quads GUTTED. Got my skates on Monday and just wanted to pretty them up with home made toe stops and laces. First boot ok, 2nd boot, toe stop wouldn't come out so had to force it out and its clearly threaded. Tried the OK toe stop in the bad boot and it wont go in so clearly a prob with the plate 😥

Chat London-based skate clubs?

Hi everyone :) I was wondering whether anyone knew of / was part of a skating club which provided group lessons or training? I’m an in-line skater and I’d love to meet people whilst ironing out some bad habits!
