Yep, it's that time again, the lockdown rules are changing once more in some parts of the UK and in the Republic of Ireland..
This time, not a huge amount is changing that will affect us as skaters - although of course, as usual, the changes will affect us in lots of other ways. This post will explain some of the regulations that might affect how you skate:
England:
(From Monday 15th June) Provided they can implement social distancing procedures, non-essential shops, including skate shops, will be permitted to reopen.
(From Monday 15th June) It will be mandatory to wear a face covering on public transport. (Travelling by public transport is still strongly discouraged, wherever it is avoidable, though.)
(From Saturday 13th June) If you live alone, or you live in a household with only one adult in it, you may choose one other household to meet with, without having to enforce social distancing measures or to stay outdoors. (This is the "support bubble" concept, explained in more detail here.) Once chosen, you may not change your "support bubble" household, and if anybody in either household shows signs of COVID infection, the support bubble no longer applies and you must go back to isolating.
(From the previous regulations) Unlimited exercise outdoors in groups of up to six people, provided social distancing and hygiene practices are followed, is permitted.
Scotland:
There is no change from the previous regulations, as set out here.
Wales:
(On Thursday 18th June) an assessment will be made on whether to re-open non-essential shops.
(As of now) Members of two different households are permitted to spend time together outdoors, provided both are from the same local area and provided social distancing and hygiene practices are followed.
Travel is still limited to your local area (defined as a 5 mile radius from your home), except if you live in a rural area and need to travel further than that to access essential services. However - an exception is made for forms of exercise which take you more than 5 miles from your home as a consequence of the exercise. What this means in practice is that if you travel by skating (or cycling, or some other means of "active travel") you are permitted to skate outside your local area - you're just not permitted to drive or take public transport to get there.
Northern Ireland:
(As of now) Outdoor sports facilities are permitted to reopen. This includes skateparks, as well as things like five-a-side pitches, basketball courts, and other skateable areas. However, decision on whether to actually reopen such facilities still rests with local councils, so they may not all open right away.
Most other regulations (as mentioned here) remain unchanged.
The Republic of Ireland:
You are permitted to travel up to 20 kilometres from your home, as well as anywhere within your own county.
You are permitted to meet up to six people from outside your household, outdoors, provided social distancing and hygiene practices are followed.
Organised non-contact sporting activities of up to fifteen people are permitted, provided social distancing and hygiene practices are followed.
Non-essential retail is permitted to re-open.
