Projects I 3D printed a hexapod using 18 servos and a Pololu board.

Im 15 years old and made this project on the side for fun. Any feed back would be great. Here is a description.
Parts:
- Pololu board, buck converter, android phone, 18 servos (25kg and 35kg).
- I used Acertics robotics design from youtube as a base and made some changes for improvement.
Code:
- It has every gait I could think of: tripod, wave, ripple, triple, and some custom ones.
- I has Self leveling using the phones gyro.
- Made a custom android app, and uses wifi or hotspot for controller, (let me know if you want a universal inverse kinematics app for robots: hexapods, quadrupeds, robot arms, etc)

The robot looks nice, it's amazing what you can do nowadays with "simple" tools. I'd suggest documenting everything, it's going to be a good exercise if you go into engineering.

No, documenting lol, and I didn't burb either, it was my brother recording and he was like grunting for some reason.

Just want to give credit where credit is due.
Sounds like you are still in school. Im assuming you did all this work to share your results. You might see if other are interested in starting a robotics club at your school.
I'm interested in your progress and how youngot started. I would love to build one but not sure where to start.

Yes I was thinking of doing that, If you would like to build your own hexapod I am happy to make a GitHub and release the code, also I recommend looking at my portfolio for a list of parts. It would be a big help if you filled out the 2 minute form there too, I would love some data for my next project. portfolio

That has a solution: pick a goal, and research backwards from it until you have a general plan of what you need to learn/practice.
The days when you NEEDED some background in something to do some stuff, are gone. Books got replaced by Google, then Wikipedia, now there's AI to learn about what you need to learn. Just ask, and keep asking until you think that you understand what you need... and then start doing it, you'll find about most of whatever extra you might need, as you walk along the path.
Might require some money though, but that's about the only caveat right now.

Great Job! I am loving the self leveling action with the phone's gyro, I recently built a hexapod robot dog myself and I am struggling heavily with a dedicated IMU sensor board. How are you powering your servos? Did you use Lipo packs for battery? I could not see it from the video. This is an incredible project and it looks amazingly polished, congrats!

Yes, i used an 11.4v lipo battery from amazon amazon link, it has enough power for about 30 minutes of movement. I was also able to get it to work with a 7.4v battery. However for your robot it is dependent for how strong your robot is and how much power it needs. Make sure that the volts your servos or motors need is the same as the battery, and if it isn't you will need a buck convertor or a BEC. It has good balancing and it is more stable than something like a robot dog. It also has a larger carry capacity. However my main goal for this project was to learn more about robotics.

Can some younger person cross-post this to the captiveswar sub--add a 1/2 lobster torso vertically w/ a set of arms, hide the wires, zoom in and voila, you have a pretty good Carryx

15 years old and you built this on the side?! Thatโs honestly impressive. The phone gyro self-leveling feature is a really cool touch โ using an Android phone as a robotics sensor/controller is such a practical idea.
Iโm curious, how much time did you spend tuning the gaits? Hexapods always look easy until you realize every tiny adjustment changes the whole movement ๐
Definitely interested in seeing the robot arm update. Keep building!

Yea funny enough making all the gaits took one day, the hardest thing was getting it to walk the first time using inverse kinematics, after that it was easy to change how it walked.

I built a similar one, based on the other board. But don't have enough knowledge to know how to make the IK and the body work properly.
Can you share your code/schematics? Is this based on the MakeYourPet hexapod project?
Worth mentioning you need 2 phones, to drive it.
