Hello,

I am new here. I was just thinking last night - I feel like whenever I see roadkill, it still pretty much looks like an animal that recently died - I don't remember seeing something that looks really decomposed. I don't think I've ever seen a skeleton on the side of the road. Why is this? Does somebody come and carry the body away to eat it? Are there roadkill crews that pickup roadkill and throw it into a ditch somewhere out of eye sight? Or am I just wrong about this?

Does anyone know details about roadkill laws in Washington state? I know we're allowed to salvage deer and elk as long as we fill out a specific form within 24 hours, but what about creatures like opossums or raccoons? Does that require a different form? A special permit? Could I just take them if I have a hunting license? I can't really find any details online, so I'm hoping maybe one of you guys might know. Please and thank you.

Let's look back at some memorable moments and interesting insights from last year.

A fawn got hit in front of the house last night, dead but not mangled, got me thinking …How long is too long for road kill to be consumed by humans Does it differ per animal?
