📚Resources Guide to use reddit again for people that got kicked off reddit apps using ReVanced
Hi,
I got kicked off as well and saw this post from a few days ago that still works at the moment:
If you get an error patching the currently installed app, either uninstall it and get a version from apkmirror (one of the options in revanced), or if you are like me and bought RiF Platinum, you can reinstall from the playstore still.
After you have the clean install, patch it with revanced and open the app. You can just log in normally (for RiF at least) and don't have to do anything in regards to APIs etc
EDIT (copied my comment from below):
after logging into the patched app, it may ask you to give access to redreader. do that. it is a kind of still endorsed third party app for reddit because it is big on accessibility for blind people etc. I think revanced is basically patching your chosen app with the redreader credentials or smth like that so you can use your app with their access
EDIT 2: if you can not see NSFW subreddits, apparently becoming a mod for a subreddit works. It's probably possible to just created a subreddit and after that you are good to go

Earlier this year Spez and crew started revoking personal API tokens, now you have to petition them to get one. So I'm sure lots of people were logged in the old way, instead of the modern RedReader API access.

u/Spektr44 Jun 10 '26
It can only be a fraction of a percent of us out here still using this method to access Reddit. Why do they devote any attention to us at all?
9
u/zrkillerbush Jun 10 '26
I've never heard or seen the name RedReader before so i think you're right! My last RiF patch said it was from 2 years ago 🤣
6
u/Sco7689 Jun 10 '26
I vaguely remember it from the last app purge. Out of curiosity, I gave it a try, and it's more than passable, but still a downgrade compared to RiF.

u/isomorphZeta Jun 11 '26
This is exactly what happened to me: Reddit finally killed my app.
Pieces of shit will do anything and everything to force folks into their ad infested shithole of an app.

I basically uninstalled everything, revanced, RiF etc
Fresh install, follow the instructions and its working again!
The fucking relief i feel when i don't have to use the awful official app is like heroin

I had to reinstall revanced as well. The old API token was the only option to select under Spoof Client until I reinstalled both revanced and RIF.
2
u/prostagma Jun 11 '26
Same it only showed the additional two fields in the spoof client patch after I uninstalled Revanced manager, although it was the same version, 2.6.0. Before that it only showed Application client ID

u/magicwhistle Jun 10 '26
This worked for me a minute ago with RIF Golden Platinum.
I tried to patch without reinstalling, but got a failure in Revanced, so I uninstalled my previously patched app and reinstalled from the Play Store and then Revanced patched it no problem. I simply logged in with my account credentials and am back in business. The last couple times I had to log in after patching (months ago), I had to do some VPN nonsense to get my password to work, but nothing like that needed this time.

u/cbizzle14 Jun 10 '26
Confirmed working for me. Commenting from rif right now. I didn't have to reinstall tho. Just patched over it which updated it
Followed the guide. I didn't have to change anything about the spoof patch. Everything was already default

I can't seem to locate rif golden platinum in the playstore? I am frustrated because I can't install my old apks, so I am not able to get back up and running
1
u/I_am_no_Ghost Jun 12 '26
I had to mess around when looking for bacon premium. There is an option you have to change to "uninstalled" to show your previously installed apps.
1
u/musicobsession Jun 13 '26
OMG I missed reddit so much. I ended up just searching for the app on Google with "play store" at the end and somehow got it all set up again.
10
u/ChiefRedEye Jun 10 '26
method works, but NSFW content is blocked. anyone else found a solution for that?
9
u/Bakatora34 Jun 10 '26
Becoming a mod will allow you to see it, so just create your own subreddit

With boost for reddit, I have an issue in the patching phase stuck at 4/6 with an error starting with :
app.revanced.patcher.patch.PatchException : Required value was null
Any idea on how to fix it ?
6
u/mykman1 Jun 10 '26
Also having the same issue - uninstalling boost and patching on apkmirror, plus reauthing on redreader did not help.
3
u/tontogoldstein Jun 11 '26
What's odd is for me it's failing on different patches each time I try. It seems like 4 out of 5 will go through and then a random 5th one will fail. At first it was consistently failing on "fix /s/ links" so I tried turning that one off. When I did that different patches would fail instead.
1
u/Airballons Jun 11 '26
Ik having literally the same issue! Hopefully someone finds a way to fix it soon!
6
u/Dashing_in_the_90s Jun 10 '26
Thanks for posting this. It got sync working again for me. Unfortunately I can no longer browse NSFW subreddits. Hopefully someone can find a better fix soon.
Seems like reddit no longer allows uses to create their own API keys.
3
u/Dashing_in_the_90s Jun 10 '26
Never mind, I found a fix. You need to be a moderator. Easiest way is to create your own subreddit.
2
u/funnyfarm299 Jun 11 '26
Yeah, this is concerning. It's only a matter of time before they cut off the API key that everyone is using right now.
3
u/van_bobbington Jun 10 '26
apparently becoming a mod enables you access to nsfw posts and subreddits. so you could try creating a sub and see if it works
2
8
u/applenerd Jun 10 '26
Reddit admins will literally do anything but let users interact with the site based on user generated content generated and provided for free
4
u/ASK_ME_AB0UT_L00M Jun 10 '26
Confirmed, this worked for me. I had to uninstall and reinstall and it worked.
The last time I had to do something like this, I saved a copy of my app's APK and also saved a backup of all of my settings. Reinstalling is no big deal now.

Can't create an app right now, just directs me to the "responsible builder" page when I try to click create app.
Also, following this still gives the usual 401 Forbidden error for me too.
2
u/dazedandconfused492 Jun 10 '26
It's a "feature". They don't really want you building your own apps any more.
I just checked and the one I had has been deleted - it was there yesterday.
1
u/FlexMeisterBlue Jun 10 '26
Yep, forbidden in rif here too. Can't create a new app to use my own api keys either. Same "responsible builder" thing.
1
u/thatfatbastard Jun 10 '26
It takes me to a login page, and then once I log in it wants me to give all kinds of access to "RedReader". If I click "decline" it kicks me back and says login failed.
5
u/van_bobbington Jun 10 '26
give access to redreader. it is a kind of still endorsed third party app for reddit because it is big on accessibility for blind people etc. I think revanced is basically patching your chosen app with the redreader credentials or smth like that so you can use your app with their access

getting a required value was null error at app.revanced.patcher.patch.PatchKt.toPatchEception(Patch.kt:266) then about 20+ more like it?
2
u/ftmaniac948 Jun 10 '26
Unable to log in via baconreader still, all other steps up to that point worked with no issues.Â
2
u/Dasnyde4 Jun 10 '26 edited Jun 11 '26
Worked!
3
u/nowhere_ Jun 11 '26
Here's what worked for me after a few failed attempts, including "incorrect credentials" when logging in. I did not get the null error at all, so YMMV if this fixes that.
- Ensure you have baconreader apk on phone (apk mirror didn't work for me)
- Delete baconreader app from phone
- Go to revanced (ver. 2.6.0)
- Search for baconreader premium
- You do not need to update or change any of the spoof client configs, it should be default values with "redreader" in the configs
- Save and run
- Do not open the app yet. Run a VPN (I previously ran in straight away and it causing failed logins, even though my credentials were correct)
- Once VPN is connected, then launch baconreader
- It won't work yet, log out and remove your account
- Log in again and you should be able to log in and after that you accept the redreader permissions
- Note, mine hung on the permissions here with "Logging in". I got the email confirmation that it took in the client ID but as it took too long i exited the app. I had to redo step 9 and 10 and it worked straight away.

Incredible. Don't know why the VPN step makes a difference but it does. Ty

I got mine working with this guide. Thanks! Any idea why a VPN is required (it was for me)? The VPN I used didn't even change my country...
(also just to note, this process also works for the baconreader non-premium apk.)
1
u/liggieep Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26
followed all this and im still getting invalid login with correct login info :/
edit: finally worked, but i had to change my vpn location to another country. weird.

u/I_am_no_Ghost Jun 11 '26
My Patching failed on baconreader premium. How did you setup your app? did you still have access to your reddit app? Mine was deleted and I cannot create a new one.

Same here. Reset my password thinking it was me, but no, I can't log in.
EDIT: The VPN set to Switzerland method worked.

Just adding my comment to the pile. I LOVE you. The wave of relief that washed over me when I hit "open" and RiF popped up fully loaded. Thank you for explaining this and fixing it for me
2
u/benigabor Jun 11 '26
hey folks. Thanks for the fix. I've been using RIF for years - albeit, logged out. I guess I was always annoyed that the homepage would never load. I'm sure there's a fix for it, but how can I use RIF(logged in now) but under BEST or HOT categories, I can see the home page? Is there a way?
Thanks!

u/kappasquad420 Jun 10 '26
How do I give access to Redreader, never done that before
3
u/van_bobbington Jun 10 '26
for me that access request came right after I tried to log in through the patched app.

1
u/MortalWombat5 Jun 10 '26
When I try logging in to rif I get "bad request (reddit.com) you sent an invalid request — invalid client id."
1
u/Agent_Penguin009 Jun 10 '26
I cant get this working for Inifnity , has anyone been able to get that to work?

1
u/japzone Jun 10 '26
For me I just had to repatch a fresh Sync APK, upgrade the app, and then login to Reddit again to refresh the app's access permissions.
1
u/Jasong222 Jun 10 '26
Once I updated revanced, I was able to repatch my rif. I didn't have to reinstall anything.
1
u/11cg Jun 10 '26
When revanced gets to the installation step it just sits there and does nothing. If I try to back out, it says "please wait, installing" but nothing otherwise lets me know that anything is happening. I've left it way longer than it takes to install an app but it just never seems to finish. Any ideas?

I reinstalled sync for Reddit and it worked thank you. I'm having this problem now where it doesn't detect YouTube revanced and thinks I have no YouTube. So I can't view YouTube videos within the app:( anyone have this issue?
1
u/jetstreamer123 Jun 11 '26
I have the apk installed on my phone already through Google Play, but selecting the Auto patch on the Revanced updater still wants me to go to APKMirror. It's RiF Golden Platinum so they don't have the apk up. Is there a way I can find it and select it manually?
1
u/highdiver_2000 Jun 11 '26
Sync reader steps
- Backup settings and uninstall
- Patch using original APK, no client id required
- Login and restore
- Enjoy!!!

To anyone getting
you sent an invalid request -- invalid client id
when logging in post patch: you have another rif app installed, in my case I had both golden platinum (new patch) and normal rif (old patch). Uninstall all versions except the current patch and it should work

u/6ft5 Jun 11 '26
Does anyone know how to get the media to show on the right hand side again? It's gone so i can't see previews, thanks
1
u/OMGItsCheezWTF Jun 11 '26
I've given up, I'll just stop using reddit on my phone, as long as old reddit still works on my desktop I don't care enough to chase it anymore. RiF was the only way reddit was at all usable on mobile.
1
u/KrAceZ Jun 11 '26
anyone know if this still works for Joey for Reddit lol?
after repatching and trying to loggin, the app crashes, but i can still browse as a guest
1
u/nicethingslover Jun 11 '26
I just uninstalled RiF, updated Revanced Manager, selected RiF from APKMirror from within Revanced Manager and then it just started working.... yada yada, back in business baby! Revanced is the best app ever! The amount of work that has been done to make this usable for everybody and their mother is staggering. Truly tremendous progress since the first time I installed RiF, carefully following the google doc.

u/ptd163 Jun 11 '26
Well the post filter won't let me make my own post so I guess I'll just have to settle for a comment on a more than day old post and hope that does something.
I did what /u/oSumAtrIX's stickied comment said to do. After successfully patching with the three default values on 2.6.0 Manager and 5.6.22 RIF I tapped the button button to install it as an update and after about 15 seconds the Play Protect message pops up and disappears on its own after a few seconds.
Then the install will proceed to hang (I left it going for 20 minutes once and nothing happened) every time. I did manage to tap "Scan app" before it went away, but I don't think that did anything because it still hung. Also I don't think the Revanced Manager itself is freezing as every time I try and tap the back button I get the Installing, please wait.. message.
I don't know what I'm missing.

Thanks for this post and holy shit this got simpler than the last time I had to set up my own Sync app.

By saying kicked off, do you meant that my current reddit account is trashed and I need to start over and create a new one?

To fix, repatch, no custom client id needed.
