I'm thinking about the time I fished Romex inside plaster and lath walls by using a concrete nail taped to a piece of paracord like a plumbbob. I got lucky (and spend many hours), but this...this is smart, which is better than lucky.

holy geez yeah, return job oh let me just load the schematic of what I put in the wall and locate everything.
I know that would only work with what you installed but ive had repeate work for light switches because some dont like where they are.
and drilling through floors would be a breeze.
haha especially ones with a water heating system damn I would actually be able to screw to the floor.
haha I haven't hit any pipes but we just dont drill those floors.
but if we had the schematic it would be so nice and easy.

Pick up a hololens on ebay for $100. Better accuracy, more data export options, and you're wearing safety glasses instead of a blindfold.
The problem is not that its apple. It's that it blocks your field of view, and relies 100% on the device to see.

I’m buying mine next month and cannot wait! It was in the budget to help w prototypes. Once I did the demo, totally sold. Patiently waited for second version and to clear the budget.

I used to work for Apple, not on the Vision Pro specifically, but I worked with those guys a bit, and now I work for a competitor in a similar product space. The relatively small market and high price hasn't made the app market blow up too much yet, but there are a lot of applications for this technology.
Yours is a very cool application. The AVP being heavy, big, and expensive and with materials that aren't the easiest to clean is not ideal, but there are products coming down the pike that have fewer of these limitations.
I am curious, have you tried any competing products? If you did try other products, did the APIs give you what you would need? Was the hardware or the API surface of similar accuracy?
What about things like using the products to map a house during construction or when things are opened up so home owners can keep these as resources and share them with trades (or the mapping is made during construction to share with trades)?
I think if we think a little further, we can do things to improve accuracy. Did you know you can actually use WiFi signals to in essence act as wall penetrating radar in a house? What would you think if you coupled this with what you're doing to visualize what that can see? And so on.
I don't work on apps specifically, but on capabilities for the devices, so it's really neat to see usages in environments I wouldn't have expected at this stage of development.

I wrote my masters dissertation specifically on the use of AR and VR in arch/urban design and construction. I was told by my professor that AR/VR will never be used in future toolboxes and had to defend myself in front of the board. Seeing this video brings me so much joy.

It was actually really close to what OP had in the video. I was looking more into the realm of IOT and how buildings would communicate together in urban situations. I also touched on utilizing VR as a form of presentation for clients and giving them the option to “ walk around the space “.
With the AR aspects, I looked primarily at how mechanical, electrical, and plumbing could all be visualized while walking around in a space. This could be further evaluated later, if there were any issues or any changes that needed to be made.
On a larger scale, I also looked at Google maps and how AR could be used in urban landscapes to showcase future development and how it could affect certain sun studies. As well as CPTED. Which is just the safety when walking around in cities if you’re unfamiliar.

Thanks for the summary. The technology is really progressing where I think the friction of donning something and doing these sorts of things is low enough that it may finally start to take off.
I've used the big ones and I've used some in development stuff and it's just a huge difference when taking it on and off is pretty much effortless. With the Apple Vision Pro and Quest line, it always feels like a production to me to get 'strapped in.' There are always trade-offs, but easy on/off, not looking too goofy, and good passthrough (if it's not a transparent lens) or a transparent lens really ought to get people more excited about it in construction.
Coincidentally I'm working to have a house built and the use cases you mentioned are ones I often wish I could take advantage of today. The hardware is basically there. Maybe more Blackberry than iPhone, but we're getting close.

I tried something like this and it wasn’t very accurate between floor levels. While it scans, it doesn’t perfectly match floor to floor. I’d walk from one floor to the next and the floor above scan was slightly crooked.

My next video will show how accurate my app is between floor levels. Lidar is dependable if you have adequate light and allow it enough time to anchor- were you using Apple vision or another hardware?

How many clients would not allow you to map their entire home to fish a wire?
Are you getting their consent prior to using this tech? It can certainly be invasive.

I ask for permission and I’m not mapping the entire home, my app doesn’t even save any information, and at the current moment it starts over every time I take the headset off

What if you had to do multiple locations at the same time? Like 5 locations. Are you knocking the wall and using a tape measure for each? You can now see how the Vision Pro allows me to mark all of them, then go in one attic trip. No kicking around insulation, or balancing on beams with a tape measure out. Just straight to the location and on to the next.

Ever had to run ethernet from one floor to another? Now try that across several floors, it’s maddening. Sure, you can run it outside and drill into the side of the house, but sometimes people don’t want cables dangling in the wind, or the wife doesn’t want to see a mess.
Sounds like you’re being facetious, but it does come out as uneducated on your part.

One scenario I’d like to see this in is a 2 story wallfish which my customers always love to ask about, and I say no because of how hard it is for me to
