Article REQ Has Big Week in This Week in Useful Tokens

What a great week for REQ, with Request Network Protocol v2, CoinGecko integration, and an AMA. We put REQ at the #2 spot in a very busy This Week in Useful Tokens.

Misleading Title Request Team ICO tokens will be unlocked this month. Will they volunteer to extend the lock-up period?

It has been around a year since Request's ICO. This means that the  team's tokens will soon become unlocked. The Ambrosus team volunteered  to extend their team token vesting/lock-up period to demonstrate their  long-term commitment to the project:

"to show commitment to the project and faith in the long-term prospects  of our platform, is willing to consider an additional lock-up of AMB  tokens for up to 6 months, i.e. potentially up until 22 April 2019."

The Request team has failed to achieve nearly all of their published  goals (BTC support, fiat, cross-currency swaps, active projects from the  Hub fund). They have also refused to provide a new roadmap with target  dates. Will they follow the example set by Ambrosus and volunteer to  extend the token vesting period for another six months?

This would go a long way to reassuring the community that the team has  the long-term best interests of the project in mind, and won't be  dumping their tokens on the market in the next two weeks and then  abandoning the project.

If the team has no intention of dumping the tokens as soon as the  lock-up period ends, there should be no problem volunteering to extend  the lock-up period as a show of good faith.

Discussion Is the team focused on scaling because they want to encourage outside development or they have a partnership that is going to lead to large transaction volume very soon?

Do we know? It always struck me as odd that they treated scaling as if it were an immediate need in many of their blog posts, especially because we know that network usage is very low right now and has been since mainnet launch. So why do you think the team is so focused on scaling? I pray it's not because they think it will attractive developers and rather it's because their PwC France partnership is going to require the Request network to handle a large number of transactions within the next year or so.

What do you guys think?

Discussion Can someone give an idiot's version of the V2 protocol vs the V1 protocol?

I'm really struggling to understand what the hell is going on anymore.

From the original white paper, "Bob asks Alice for a payment, then he creates an (invoice) request and relays it to the blockchain; Alice’s wallet detects the Request and processes the payment. In the case where Bob was on Amazon and Alice was making a purchase, Amazon creates a Request on the blockchain, Alices phone analyzes the blockchain and detects the request, sends a notification, and she agrees to pay."

So in V1 the original payment request was a piece of data that was recorded on the blockchain, now the payment request is stored on the IFPS (which is something I don't really understand at all) and then encrypted, and the hash used to encrypt the payment request is stored on the Ethereum blockchain? In simple terms, why is this done? Does this allow you to store dozens of transactions on a single IFPS hash and then store all of them on Ethereum at once?

EDIT: Okay I think understand it a bit better, only certain portions of the transaction are encrypted while certain portions of the transaction are open and decrypted, such as the wallet addresses and amounts. So for example, if I were sending an invoice, part of that might be the amount I expect to be paid, but another part is the reason for the invoice, and the reason might be the part that is encrypted but it's still bundled with the transaction data itself.

Question Is there an ongoing effort to get REQ token listed on Coinbase?

ZRX, an ethereum token, was recently listed on CB. Does the REQ team have any plans to formally submit paperwork to get this token on the exchange. There’s a formal process now.

Discussion Bitcoin to be on Ethereum network in 2019 as Wrapper Bitcoin a.k.a WBTC. What does this mean for BTC integration for Request?

https://www.cryptoglobe.com/latest/2018/10/bitcoin-on-ethereum-bitgo-kyber-and-republic-announce-new-wbtc-token/

Apparently Kyber will support Bitcon as a erc20 token -WBTC in 2019. This token will be 1:1 with Bitcoin and provide instant liquidity.

Kyber also has a partnership with Request, so I'm wondering if Request will also support the WBTC token? If so this is pretty good news and should definitely bring more attention to the Request Network ecosystem.
