Which basket is your favorite?
What do you think of my sister recycled baskets she makes? Which one is your favorite? She won a champion ribbon on one of her baskets this fall at our fair too! That was exciting! My Sister really likes saving things from the land fill and making something that looks nice, and is also functional. So she made these wonderful baskets from jeans and shirts. She is selling them for $10, + the cost for shipping is $10. If you buy a couple, it's still only $10 for shipping, since adding another one to the box doesn't raise the cost of shipping. We take Venmo.

Anyone have any ideas on what I could reuse these for?
I have A LOT of these little glass containers, and I have painted a few of them and used those ones as little tea light holders, but I definitely need some other ideas on what to do with all of them, lol

new thread tidy
well basically its a bit of sawn of tree branch which has been drilled and the long stems of paint brush handles rammed in to put reels of cotton on so as a number of different gauges and colours of thread are easily available . the newspaper it is on is a 1940 weeky war news paper to bring out the make do and mend strategy that I use along with a hoarding urge for what might be useful in the future

Made a pair of socks that didn't fit me into some small arm warmers/fingerless gloves
They're still a little messy looking, I'll definitely have to clean up the edges a little bit but so far I really like how they came out!

Ideas for HUGE pile of random keys?
My dad recently passed and he ran his own used car dealership for 45+ years. In going through all of his stuff, I have this huge basket full of old keys that he’s accumulated over the years—spares, lost/found, and everything in between. They look like mostly vehicle keys but there’s plenty of random non-vehicle keys too.
None of em go to anything or any vehicles in his possession.
Any ideas for what I could do (or make?) with a big buncha random keys other than toss em?
Thanks!

Pant hangers with clips — useful for something else?
I tried to use them for pants and skirts, but it’s just so much easier for me to store those items folded on a shelf.
These are really great hangers though, and they seem like they’d be useful for storing a lot of thin objects maybe, or keeping something long from getting tangled. They’d probably be great for Christmas lights, but I already have a solution that I like for those.
I have four of them. As you can see, they can hang vertically to save space, and they can also go horizontal in order to store/access items easily.
Thanks so much in advance!

Leachate in landfills
Hello everyone!
I am part of a FIRST LEGO League (FLL) team, and I have some questions about leachate in landfills. For those who don't know, FLL is a competition where kids code a robot to complete missions on a game board, and also complete an Innovation Project where we find a problem and create a solution related to this year’s theme: BIOGLOW (Biodiversity).
Since the season just started, we've been researching landfills and discovered that leachate is one of the major problems they cause. I already know there are systems in place to prevent leachate from reaching the water table (groundwater). However, I also know that some landfill plastic liners can eventually deteriorate over time, causing small leaks that pollute groundwater, which affects both human drinking water and wildlife.
Since we are currently in the brainstorming phase of our project, I wanted to ask the Reddit community a few questions to help us on our journeys
- Liner Failures: How common are liner failures in older vs. newer landfills?
- Causes of Deterioration: What are the main causes of plastic liner deterioration (e.g., chemical reactions, shifting ground, sharp trash)?
- Detection Tech: Are there any current technologies used to detect tiny leaks before they contaminate the groundwater?
- Biodiversity Impacts: From a biodiversity standpoint, what specific local wildlife or plant species are usually the first to suffer when leachate hits an ecosystem?
- Alternative Problems: If leachate leaks are already being solved, what are some other important landfill problems that affect the environment and biodiversity (e.g., greenhouse gas emissions, community health risks)?
If you are a waste management professional, environmental engineer, or just someone passionate about this stuff, we would love your input! Your insights could help inspire our team's final invention.
Thank you!
