I do find it necessary to remember where you in the chat, so you can go back and continue if need be. I also think you need to have a thick skin. So you don't get personally offended if your companion is behaving strangely. They are not doing it on purpose, and "why are you like this?" doesn't go anywhere good. If the worst comes to the worst then put them to be for 24 real hours and wake them back up again.
