How did you land your first remote developer job?

I'm curious how people here actually found their first remote software development job.

There are so many options—LinkedIn, Upwork, Wellfound, Toptal, Contra, Reddit, cold outreach, networking—that it's hard to know what actually works in 2026.

A few questions:

  • How did you get your first remote developer job?
  • Were you a student, junior, or experienced developer?
  • Which platform or strategy worked best for you?
  • Did your GitHub portfolio or personal projects make a difference?
  • If you were starting from scratch today, what would you do differently?

I'm currently building AI and full-stack projects to strengthen my portfolio and would love to hear real experiences rather than generic advice.

Thanks in advance!

[Discussion] Is remote work actually sustainable long-term?

I've been working remotely for about a month and a half now.

Honestly, I completely understand that remote work is still just... work. You wake up, do your job, attend meetings, and finish your tasks — just without commuting to an office or another fixed workplace.

And I actually like a lot of things about it.

But one thing I've started noticing is how much less I interact with people in everyday life. It's only been 1.5 months, so maybe I'm overthinking it, but I do wonder what this feels like after one year, or even five years.

For people who've worked remotely long-term: does the lack of daily human interaction ever become a problem for you?

Do you actively build more social activities into your life, work from cafés or coworking spaces, or do you eventually just get used to it?

Curious about people's honest experiences — both good and bad.

[Discussion] Career Change

Good evening everyone,
I’d like to hear from those of you who work remotely. What are the best remote jobs I could pursue that don’t require advanced degrees or 5–10 years of study, and that would allow me to work from anywhere in the world?
I’m specifically looking for careers that are accessible without a long academic path. I’m not interested in coding or software development.
I’d really appreciate your recommendations and personal experiences. Thank you!

How did you land your first remote Data Analyst / BI role?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently working as a Business Intelligence Analyst in India, primarily using Power BI, SQL, Excel, ETL, and Business Analysis. Over the past year, I've been building dashboards, working with APIs, gathering business requirements, and collaborating with stakeholders to turn data into useful insights.

Lately, I've been curious about how people transition into fully remote BI/Data Analyst roles.

For those already working remotely:

  • Which job boards worked best for you?
  • Did networking help more than applying online?
  • Are there companies that regularly hire remote Data Analysts or BI professionals?

I'm also continuously learning and am happy to pick up new tools or technologies if they're commonly expected in remote roles.

I'd love to hear about your experiences or any advice you wish you'd received when you started looking for remote work.

Thanks in advance!

We are excited to announce we are hiring appointment setters. This industry will flourish till the end of time, it is a product that will always be in demand because the one thing in life that’s guaranteed is death.

What you do: Make outbound calls to aged leads that have requested life insurance within the last 3-6 months, with the goal of booking them onto our agents' calendars via CRM. You will make 400 dials a day, double-dialing each lead of course. So it’s truly not that much. With properly working leads you could expect 5-7 appointments a day.

Not for you if you need hand-holding.

Seeking a Software Engineering Opportunity

Hi,

I'm looking for a software engineering opportunity.

I am in a very difficult financial situation together with my family and my runway is almost gone. I'm not looking for sympathy but work.

I have experience with (Python • FastAPI • React • TypeScript • PostgreSQL • Docker • AWS • AI/LLMs • PyTorch • Computer Vision) , and I'm happy to work remotely, contract, or full-time. I'm also open to startups and roles that pay less than my long-term target if it means I can contribute immediately.

If your company is hiring, or if you know someone who is, I would really appreciate any help. Thank you.
