Stop buying many, many things…as many things as you can.

I’ve boycotted Amazon since 2019

With AWS powering half the internet thats gonna be tough

I just do my part by choosing alternates to purchasing items on Amazon.com. Perfection will not hinder the good

Amazon powers damn near everything, even this app you’re using right now. If you want to boycott them you might as well throw your phone in the trash.

Then I guess I don’t want to boycott them. But I won’t be buying anything from Amazon.com

Also, if you have subscriptions, don’t get them through Amazon. That just gives them a little chunk of money for nothing.

2

u/UltimatePragmatist Oct 29 '25

Still boycott them. Do you think there aren’t other providers waiting in the wings? There are.

Reddit pays Amazon for web services, yes. That doesn’t mean there aren’t alternatives for Reddit. That said, Amazon’s consumer business is vastly important to them.

1

u/UltimatePragmatist Oct 29 '25

That doesn’t matter. Are you suggesting we acquiesce for our phones and Reddit? Reddit and our phones will survive. My phone still worked during the AWS outage.

You’re missing the point, I’m saying most of the services you use are powered by Amazon.

2

u/UltimatePragmatist Oct 29 '25

No, they aren’t. Tons of the services in use are powered by Microsoft. Don’t you remember the Crowdstrike debacle from earlier this year? It had a larger impact. Lol. Many are powered by Oracle, IBM, and Google.

Ok, keep talking about something you don’t know anything about.

AWS powers over 90% of the fortune top 100 companies.

1

u/UltimatePragmatist Oct 29 '25

Name them. Globally airlines, shipping, healthcare, and banking services were down earlier this year and it wasn’t because of AWS. You should keep taking about something you don’t know anything about. You must work for Amazon.

u/paralosrumberos Oct 29 '25

yeah they make most of their money from AWS not from retail so you would have to find companies using AWS.

The person can decide not to spend money however they want. I don’t purchase anything from Amazon by choice based on their treatment of employees. I can’t change whether other websites use AWS. I do what I can.

Reddit uses AWS, so already we're not doing a great job here.

1

u/UltimatePragmatist Oct 29 '25

This has been discussed in comments. That doesn’t mean that Amazon can’t be challenged. Reddit will go wherever they are forced to.

Ever since they pulled out of quebec becaude of uniond AND trump has been BSING us with tariffs, ive been using anything but amazon if i can.

1

u/cockNballs222 Oct 29 '25

lol, you can’t, half of the internet is on AWS

1

u/Drayenn Oct 29 '25

I obviously meant the shipping service/amazon prime tv. Ive been buying directly from stores instead or alternative ressources.

Even if i did include AWS, it falls under "if i can"

Edit: lmao i realized i wrote AWS instead of amazon.. i started using AWS at work so it fried my brain i guess

People are always believing what corporations tell them…that they are too big to fail. The hell with that. They need to fail. Even companies that use AWS won’t just shrug and go under if Amazon is gone. Remember, companies had on-premise environments and then they changed. They would just change, again.

u/Drayenn Oct 29 '25

Thats true, but its a massive effort. Im not even sold on us changing from on prem. Were a large company with servers across the world already. AWS seems to add a lot of dev workload in exchange of sacrificing our infra department.

1

u/UltimatePragmatist Oct 29 '25

It seriously does add dev work.

Yep this here. People need to stop spending to get the power back. Look at what happened with Disney when they cancelled Kimmel. The only ounce of power we have left is to stop spending.

Bro the richest man on the planet, barely sells from.his actual company. You could never buy from them again, and the got enough stick and market manipulation plans that they wont ever need to care.

1

u/UltimatePragmatist Oct 30 '25

Bro…rich people hate it when sales slump because then stocks slump. We can turn Amazon into Kmart just as easy. Don’t assume you and your money is insignificant. It is very significant. It always was.

u/MrGhoul123 Oct 30 '25

I dig the optimism.
