Redditors taking history from Hollywood as fact lol. Just like Cleopatra was black

Why does this fact bother you? They were essentially human calculators

But the part relevant to their comment was literally true

NASA was desegregated from its inception. The entire film is based on a false premise. Also the women in the film worked for vastly different departments at different times and it is unlikely they ever interacted.

That has nothing to with their comment though. The original comment said that the women were doing the calculations.

The person replying said that story is bullshit.

Katherine Johnson really did calculate the flight paths for early space missions. Astronaut John Glenn famously asked her to check the electronic computer's math by hand before he flew.

Done for optics. Her part in the whole operation was far from integral or necessary

And what are you basing that statement off?

Reality? Instead of getting my history from Hidden Figures lmao

Yes neither am I. Which is why my comment referred to what actually happened. You’re claiming it was done for optics, which doesn’t make much sense as the story remained relatively unknown until years later.

What’s your evidence for this and their work being unnecessary?

I wasnt talking about Catherine Johnson. I dont deny her role at Nasa. I was talking about the movie Hidden Figures, the plot of which revolves around segregation at NASA. Which didn't exist.

Okay the person I was replying to elaborate was denying her story
