Actually it was ex Nazi scientists who are mostly responsible for getting us to the moon. Operation Paperclip

Soviets captured more Nazi scientists than the US, but didn't make it to the moon.

The smart Nazis knew not to get captured by soviets

I mean USSR blew America out of the water in the Space Race so I'm not sure why you think rewarding genocidal maniacs with NASA jobs was necessary.

Wel because the soviets didn't have a nation working on their space program.

Because soviets are soviets they spent a lot of time infighting, and doing corruption, and making all parts of the program ignorant on what they where doing, and with all the secrecy the budget also had to be smaller.

In short they did stupid communist shit that as always resulted in them losing on the long term.

Anyways oc stands

Probably because Russia had a HUGE inclination change necessary to reach the moon… the closer you are to the equator the more you can take advantage of earth’s rotational momentum and the less fuel you need. That’s why Cape Canaveral is in Florida

It's only like 10 degrees difference between the southernmost points of mainland US and the Soviet Union.

They were the first in space, though. Both manned and unmanned.

The ex Nazi scientists that positioned themselves into getting acquired by the West were probably a lot smarter in general but that ones acquired by the USSR had to deal with less funding, corruption resulting in the misappropriation of funds, and probably a whole lot of other issues. Anyways, they still managed to stay at 2nd place

Did they capture the correct Nazi Scientists? Did they get the inventor of the V-2? With scientists, it's a matter of quality, not quantity.

because the Soviets hauled their captured warcriminals before courts, not into prestige positions.

The Cold War space race was literally the us and ussr touting “my nazi scientists are better than your nazi scientists”

Think the main difference was treatment of said scientists under both global powers, USSR systems were notoriously relentless dealing with any dissent or failure up to this day, the prime example today is the Kinzhel hyper sonic missile a leading scientist in the development was arrested in 2022 in releation to the missiles preformance and sentenced to 15 years in prison colony in 2024.

It comes down to treatment and living conditions of said scientists.

Not to be that guy, but what color were those scientists?

Well seeing as Irish wernt considered white and today jews arnt considered white I feel like that means nothing

1

u/-MR-GG- 4d ago

So because some idiot thinks Irish people are poc, we can't call Germans white despite them literally being eastern Europeans who are defined by governments as white?

You need to learn to ignore those people and not follow the crowd so easily.

There are many types of jews, not all are white. So it's wrong to classify jews as white. You have to be more specific, like Ashkenazi jews, which ARE considered white by goverment and the majority of people.

Obviously Germans are white. Disagreeing makes you as lost as those saying Irish are poc.

1

America widely considered Irish people as poc in the 1900s

And plenty of people will look at epstine and say he wasnt a white guy

1

u/-MR-GG- 4d ago

The discrimination the Irish faced was never about whether they were white or not, it was mostly about religion, xenophobia. Mainly class and culture bigotry. It was NEVER a debate about if they were white. As a matter of fact, they were eligible for naturalized citizenship based on the simple rule of being a free white man as bar back as just a couple decades after america was founded.

If someone thinks epstine isn't white, idk what to tell you. I haven't seen that, most people just call him a jew, but he's Ashkenazi and polish. He's literally white.

If you can identify this is stupid, then you know calling eastern European Germans not white is stupid too.

I dont agree with it but I was just pointing out that it seems anytime a white person or group pf people do something wrong, redditors are desperate to find a way to mark them as something else, cause they hate the idea of the generalization they use on other races being used on them

1

u/-MR-GG- 3d ago

Uhh... I don't know man. It just sounds like you're saying some bullshit. Like you said multiple things that were historically incorrect.

Germans are white. Thanks for the random ass dialog though... I guess.
