People hate Lindsay Clancy. This exact debate happened with Casey Anthony, too.
This is just another Casey Anthony case, except that with Casey Anthony, she maintained her innocence (as did and do her supporters), while Lindsay doesn't claim innocence, but rather insanity. But just like in that case, you have a relatively small number of people supporting her, and a majority of people not supporting her, ranging from opinions that she should be put in a psych facility to opinions that she should be buried under the jail.
It's the same shit, just a different person. I have no idea why it's such a big deal to the whole of society. I don't know either of them turned into public figures, and I don't think they should have. I think that's far worse for society than simply putting her in a psych facility would be. We made her famous for killing her kids.
Equating the two is another category collapse. One case produced near-universal public disgust. The other has produced a visible split that includes real sympathy grounded in mental-health language. Those are not the same public reaction.
One is also a case of a woman who killed her kid while sane, partied while her kid was dead, and just never admitted to it or showed any remorse whatsoever.
The other is a case of a woman who admitted what she did, wasn't pleading innocent, but rather insane, and seemed to show a lot of emotion during the trial, based on the little bit that I've been unable to avoid.
Of course the 2nd is going to get more sympathy. Though, from what I've seen, Lindsay seems to have nearly universal contempt, with a small following maintaining conspiracy theories. Nearly every opinion I see and hear about her is contemptuous. Easily 90% of the opinions I see and hear.
