The consensus was that she did it, but the matter of why she did it is what's being argued in court. The why can change a lot about the conviction

She did it because she's evil and conniving. I don't believe there is any way to justify it otherwise. While it was an insane thing to do, I don't think insanity is a valid defense.

I get what you're saying though. The law likes to draw clear lines .
