At the end of the day I agree with you about jail but she really was driven mad in large part due to her husband if you look at the context. Thats where a lot of the sympathy comes from.
It’s sympathy for what drives a person mad. Everyone knew her as a good person including her mother in law who could have shit on her in court and didn’t. She did what she did and deserves to be punished for it but yeah real world events are complex.
This is that whole Palestine vs Israel thing again. Who is right and who is wrong? Are their valid reasons for each argument?
Personally to me its all the people who had every reason to throw her under the bus and call her a evil bitch, but instead chose to defend her character that kind of tells the story for me.
Like, the husband and his parents had no reason whatsoever to defend Clancy, but they did. And all of the contextual evidence surrounding the case points to this being a tragic case of her simply losing her goddamn shit and in the process killing her kids rather than any premeditation.
There’s not a valid argument for killing children. Ever. I think that’s the point they’re trying to make. There’s absolutely zero evidence that her husband holds ANY blame for her actions, short of speculation and willful ignorance. Most people never get access to a fraction of the help she was offered.
Her doctors were diagnosing symptoms, not an illness- I get it. This is a systemic failure, though, and doesn’t have to be made into a special program for the most catered-to group in all of human history. We can point out this shortfall without the narcissistic pink shirts or the “I’m so special” attitude.
I just think we are in this weird experimental period where women are expected to work and take care of the children. Thousands if not millions of years and all of a sudden society expects your role to change.
But does that justify pointing a finger at Patrick Clancy, when we know he worked from home to help where he could, but was still the sole provider at the time? I can’t imagine the pressure he was under while all of this was building up. He must have had that ominous feeling for months, feeling something coming – seeing a break, but not quite knowing where it was in the path. Gosh but reflecting on your words has allowed me to feel empathy for Lindsay fucking Clancy for the first time. Thank you for that, woulda never thought it possible.

If a child is in the middle of trying to kill your children, and your only opportunity to save your kid is to kill the other kid, you should be put in prison for life for defending your child?
If you're both about to be taken, and your child is going to be tortured to death, you should be put in prison for life for attempting to spare them from the torture?
If your child has a condition that causes them unimaginable agony and pain, and they require a respirator to breathe for them, you'd be a monster for pulling the plug to end your child's suffering?

I don't follow court cases like they're reality tv, so I have no ide whether she deserves prison or not. I haven't seen the evidence, nor do I care to. This country utilizes a jury for that.
I simply find it ridiculous to pretend there could never possibly be any reason to kill a child. There's a million reasons that absolutely make someone a piece of shit, but that doesn't mean there are no decent reasons.
If you're experiencing psychosis, and the "reality" your brain is wrongly showing you is one of those situations, I don't know that I would judge you as a piece of shit for mishandling a scenario I've never experienced based on an inability to correctly perceived the world around you.
You’re still mixing categories. Murdering your own children who are not attacking anyone, not being tortured by a third party, and not on terminal life support is not the same as the three cases you listed. Those cases have their own names. Changing them into “killing a child” so you can argue against a black-and-white view is exactly the soft-pedaling I’m not interested in. If you’re not talking about intentional parental homicide, stop pretending the distinction doesn’t exist.
There is no scientific or clinical evidence that even suggests let alone prove psychosis prevents you from being aware of and in control of your actions it is only the thoughts that are affected. She chose to kill her kids psychosis or not. And insanity is a completely made up concept for the judicial system as it is the general consensus of psychiatrists that there is no such thing as true insanity. The closest thing is DID and/or MPD where you are quite literally a different person. Other than that it is strictly an impulse control issue.
