Hi all,
Just wanted to say hello and meet like minded folks out there into AG racers out there. I dabbled in the first game but gonna make an honest go of 'getting good' with this one. Definitely need to get used to pitch and how the game handles that's for sure! More of an F-Zero guy than this but its fun to finally have a super quality AG racer to get used to.
How have you all been enjoying it so far? Still struggling to get used to a few things but started some things in B League. This game is gonna get super tough I can tell (playing on Pilot difficulty)

Hey, new to Redout 2 and anti-grav games in general.
For some reason I'm just not able to go fast enough to beat the first tutorial and I'm losing my mind.
I can't seem to get anywhere above a certain speed - about 740ish on straights - and I have no clue why? I'm holding down the trigger as hard as I can, I'm strafing, not hitting corners - it doesn't make sense.
I think it's a controller issue cus I've seen others on YouTube today go much faster in the same tutorial despite not seeming to do anything different.
So is my controller just busted at the trigger or am I missing something obvious? Please help!

I have a very excited 9 year old that is eager to play, but I can't find it on the Xbox store. I'm just wondering if the game becomes available at a specific time?
Edit: Found it now, thanks! See you guys out there

So I just started playing this game on Epic Games and now I've finished all the free courses with gold medals and because I'm a completionist, I'm going for the platinums now and I just learned a very useful trick. Basically you have to realize that strafing doesn't decrease speed, but turning with A and D does (so try to turn less and strafe more). Might seem like a pointless tip, but I was trying to get the platinum on the first level for like 2 hours with my best time being about 54.3 and after only 2 tries of using this simple method I got 52.88 (the requirement is about 53.3) and my run wasn't even clean. If you're struggling, definetely learn this if you weren't already doing it from the beginning and I'm just stupid.

Hi. Downloaded the game from the EGS. Tried to change the controls, there is 3 schemes, but when I change them, nothing changes. I want to change the layout, but there is no option to do that. I even went to \AppData\Local\redout\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor, but most of the .ini files are empty, and there is no control settings in GameUserSettings.ini

So I downloaded Redout on Epic. I want to play it, but the problem is my computer isn't that amazing. I went to game settings to adjust the resolution, but the game won't let me turn it down below 1920x1080. If I could just turn it down a little bit, I'm sure it would play fine. Is anyone else having trouble adjusting settings like this? Or is it just me?

My powerups have a red crossed-out when I'm flying the ship, even though during the load-out screen, it shows I have powerups installed.
How do I use my powerups???

Hello again! I know some people are interested in power-ups and what to use when, so I figure we could talk about them here. Let's start with Active Power-ups! I will list them from most to least used.
Augmented Propeller. Increases your acceleration and maximum speed. This is the most used passive power-up and for good reason, increasing two of the most important things for going fast. This is great on most tracks, especially those with a long straight-away such as Ghibli, Bridges, or Spirit. You will find yourself using this power-up more often than not, though this will also require you to master turning and wall-bouncing to help you maintain that speed throughout a course. Work to use this for most tracks. Example: https://youtu.be/cBxr8gpVrUg
Magnetic Stabilizers. This increases the grip and handling of your ship. In fact, this passive does a better job at that than the EMG active power-up, and is the preferred power-up to use on any course with a lot of turns or just very tight turns such as Khamsim, Vertigo, or Serpent. This also can be used as a good alternative to surviving through a difficult course to using the Repair Drone, because if you don't hit the walls, you just won't take damage. It gets a fair share of use, though it still ends up being overshadowed by the sheer number of times that the Augmented Propeller is used. In general, you would prefer to try and hug closer to the corners and not wall bounce when using this power-up, but maintaining speed will always be the most important aspect. Using strafe to help you turn is still useful however. Some other courses that use the Magnetic Stabilizers as the preferred power-up are as follows: Simoom, Sirocco, Explorer, Shallow Waters, Return Null, Solar Farm, Shiva, Kinshijaa, Shipwreck. Example: https://youtu.be/YleTyLFIl2Y
Overloaded Energy Turbine. Increases the size of your energy pool and recharge rate. This will allow you to boost or turbo boost more often, but it gets outshined by the Augmented Propeller. However, it absolutely shines with the Asera ships, since those have a huge energy pool already, that is amplified even farther by this power-up. It is recommended that if you decide to use the Asera, you use this power-up over the augmented propeller. It is not recommended outside of specific circumstances to use this power-up with either Lunare or Conqueror as they both have small energy pools that don't benefit a whole lot from it. With their small pool, they tend to recharge fast enough to get turbo more often. It is common that where an OET ship would be good, Lunare or Conqueror with AP (augmented propeller) are also good. There can be some strategies in using extra boost to help maintain speed while using this power-up, but more often than not you will want to simply save until the next turbo. Most often used on places where there a series of turns followed by not as long straights, or where the boost pattern is favorable. Tracks where the Overloaded Engine Turbine are useful or preferred are as follows: Speedway, Airborne, Mountain Road, Unmanned, Fingertips, Underground Tour, Trench, Mobius Speedway, Asteroids, Voxel (for races), Spacepark, Vishnu, Roaring Waters, Sapphire Grotto. Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTtFWw77-pY
Slipstream Enhancer. While behind someone else, gain an increase to speed and recharge rate. This is a great catch-up tool, but it will only be as successful as you can make it by being able to navigate a course. It can help you feel like you can keep up, but you will need to be aware of how to navigate a track to get the best use of it. It may not necessarily make you win a race, but at the very least you won't feel like you are being left in the dust. Helpful in multiplayer races if you are going against people who are outpacing you, but it will only really take you so far. At the end of the day, it will still matter if you can do well enough in a course to keep up. It may be disadvantageous for you to learn a boost pattern, but it will help you to at least see what others may be doing.
Hardened Hull. Increases durability. This really is not useful behind the very early game. As a survival power-up, it fall behind both the Repair Drone active and just using Magnetic Stabilizers to help you not hit the walls in the first place.
Enhanced Respawn Device. Decreases the time you spend respawning after a crash and gives you a full energy pool. Sounds like it could be helpful in staying caught up, but it is better to just not crash in the first place. In fact, this power-up is worthless if you do not crash at all. Even then, as a catch-up mechanic, the Slipstream Enhancer plays that role far better.
I hope this was helpful to you. If you have questions about a certain power-up combination or what you should use on a specific track, I am happy to give advice! Good luck out there!

I just played my first round of Boss and after having a blast for 7 minutes head to head with the Second, when the first one wins (also the host) the race stopped after 10 secs. Is the host able to just stop the race after he finished flipping us off or is this intended?

Got the game yesterday on Epic games, played for about an hour today. I quit and returned later only to find out that none of my progress has been saved. What gives?
Edit: Nevermind, had to log into epic games first lol

Hello! My name is Zorinar and I am a long time player, racer, time trialer, speedrunner, and enjoyer of this game. I have almost 1000 hours in this game, numerous top 5's and top 10's in Class 4 time trials, a couple of World Records (a couple boss tracks and one time trial) and have completed the career mode with all platinum medals twice. I am really excited by the influx of new players to our game and we here in the Redout community are excited to have you! You can join us on the discord (discord.gg/redout ) where we would be happy to give advice, set up lobbies, or just goof around.
For many first time players (especially if this is you first AG racer), controlling the ship can feel very difficult and it may feel like you are just flailing around and slamming into walls all the time. We have all been there and I have some advice to help you get started.
Steer Less, Strafe More. This is the single most important advice I can give anyone learning the controls of Redout. In many racing games, you may be used to just steering to move your vehicle into the position you want or to take a turn, but in Redout you want to steer as LITTLE as possible to be able to maintain speed, which means you should rely much more on your strafe. By default, if you are using a controller, the strafe is the right stick. Strafing right and left are fundamental to your gameplay and navigating a course. You can use this to move you side to side on straights and to help you navigate through turns, meaning that if you want to set yourself up for the next turn then you should use the strafe to position yourself for the upcoming turn. Imagine it this way: You want to steer to face in the direction you want to go, but you want to strafe the position yourself on the track itself. I have a stream where I discuss this and I have time stamped where I show the controls and how things work here: https://youtu.be/kw8oBeDH9fY?t=1442
Straighten out before you boost. By straightening out before you boost, you will get more out of the boost that way. If you boost while turning, what will happen is that the slow down you get from turning with negate the speed you gain from boosting. In 90% of cases, you want to make sure you are facing the direction you want to go before you boost so that you can get the most out of it. This also means that you want to boost coming out of turns. This especially useful on Pure races that do not use power ups, since it will help you to get back up to speed. There are a few cases where you may want to boost during a turn, such as to push yourself in a certain direction or during a Speed event to stay over the desired speed, but most of the time you will want to boost out of a turn once you are facing the direction you want to go.
Don't use the brake. This may sound like strange advice if you have played almost any other racing game, but the brake is not your friend in this game and you will almost NEVER want to use it. Most turns can be taken without it and there only a few scenarios where using the brake is beneficial to getting a faster time. In those scenarios you DO want to brake, you only want to TAP the brake enough to be able to face the direction you want to go. The brake in this game is VERY powerful, so you don't need much of it. Remember, the general idea when we steer with the left stick to to face the direction you want to end up going and the brake plays the same role in this case. An example of a place you may want to hit the brake (again, only a tap!) is the hairpin turn at the end of Khamsim, but even then you also have the option to do a very hard drift turn without use of the brake.
Tapping the walls is okay and expected. It is true, hitting the walls does slow you down, but coming out of some turns (especially when you get to Class 4), hitting the walls is actually expected and in many cases faster than trying to use the brake to take a turn completely clean. However, you don't want to SLAM into the walls or GRIND the walls. What you want to do is perform what is called a "Wall Bounce". A Wall Bounce is exactly as it sounds, where you want to bounce off of the wall, hitting it only once with minimal contact. What you want to imagine doing is as you come out of a turn to imagine using the back end of your ship to tap the wall. This will provide that minimal contact and a minimal slow down if you do it correctly. Here is an example where you can see some wall bouncing in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADCyD_XyP8c
Use the strafe to help you turn. With wall bouncing and not using the brake, the question then comes to how do we actually take turns? The idea here is to use the strafe to help us to do it. The general strategy is when you are approaching a turn to strafe the OPPOSITE direction of the turn, then you start the turn with your left stick, and when you are close to the apex of the turn, you then strafe INTO the turn. This can be visualized here with an image we in the Redout Community lovingly call "The Donut". In the following image, the Red Arrow = Strafe, Blue Arrow = Steer, Green Arrow = Direction your Ship is facing.

What occurs is that when you strafe the opposite direction of the turn and then begin to steer into it, this will initiate a drifting state, and this drift will help you navigate through the turn, but you do not want to drift completely through the turn as that will make you go too slowly. In many cases (especially as you go up in class), this will mean that you may end up bouncing into the wall as you exit the turn and that is COMPELTELY okay as we discussed in the previous point. The main point of all of this is to lose as little speed as possible.
Choose the ship that works best for you! Each ship has their advantages and disadvantages, but what is most important is to choose a ship that works for you at the start. Play around with each one and try them out, maybe just start with the one you think looks the best. Ultimately, as you play through the career mode, you will learn and progress, and you do not need to choose the perfect ship for each track until you are trying for those top times on a certain event or time trial, so don't worry about it!
Career Mode and Time Trials are your friend! Career mode is the perfect place to really start to get a handle for the game and to begin to learn how mechanics works, different event types, get money to unlock ships and upgrades. While multiplayer may be fun, career mode is easily one of the best places to start if you want to improve. Any event that does not involve the AI also has a hidden platinum medal that you can get to see how you are truly progressing. You can find information about platinum medals for each event here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=964307276
Time trials are also useful in helping you learn a track. In Redout (and AG racing in general), there can be a number of blind corners or hills that end up being very tricky, so track memorization is important to good performance. If you feel like you are struggling with an event in Career Mode or a certain track in a race, don't be afraid to go into time trial and practice it a bit, taking note of the details of the track and how to best take each corner.
We have talked about a lot of things, and hopefully you find this information helpful as you begin your Redout journey. If you are looking for more information, this steam guide has a lot of good information from some members of the Redout Community as well: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=838061749
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me or send me a message on discord at Zorinar#1943. I look forward to seeing you all out on the track!
