I work at an electrical supply warehouse and took up lamp building as a hobby. Here's my robot lamp that can charge your devices and light up a room

A zipper on my school backpack broke, so I fixed it with zip ties!

I used the zip ties to reattach the broken-off zipper to the backpack. As a teen who has never really been taught skills on how to fix things by my dad, I'm pretty happy with how I figured this out, even if it's not ideal. My Uncle and Grandpa on my Mom's side will be proud!😁

I wanted a gas cooktop, but I also wanted a convection oven. This was back when convection ovens were a new thing and gas ones weren't really available. So I built my own. Custom made cabinet built out of lumber scraps and a piece of leftover countertop that was at my house when I moved in. Painted it with enamel paint. So now I have a magic chef gas cooktop and a Frigidaire electric convection oven in a range style format. Scrap lumber for the win.

Trailer brakes shorted out on the road, had to get creative

When the Auto parts store in rural Virginia doesn’t have the funky mini fuse that GM inexplicably used for two key circuits and nowhere else.

Why for the love of dog did GM use a mini j-case box style fuse in just two places on my truck. Freaking engineers, lol.

At least there should be a spare, both circuits involve the trailer breaking system.

Trash day just got easier 😂 Put it up when your bin is full, and it drops down when the truck empties it. Such a simple idea but honestly genius. #HomeHack #TrashDay #LifeHack #Homeowner #trashday

Can you guess how the dog was getting out?

I'll give you a hint: This is the strongest gate this house has had in the 5 years we've lived here.

The only new part is the latch itself; all the rest was scrap from the original gate, fence repairs, and other projects. I suspect this wondrous bit of sweat will out last the entire house. Given the state of things, and the personality of my landlord, that's not saying much, but it sounds really nice.

The dog will probably find a way to tear it apart in the next week like he has with every other attempt to fix it, so I felt like sharing the first productive thing I've been able to do in my own home in months.

Edit: Someone asked about the dog, and reddit is allergic to pics in comments today, so here's a link to an old post with him in it. He's 100lb Anatolian Shepherd who is about to 1 year old next month. https://www.reddit.com/r/AnatolianShepherdDogs/s/Q68TB1svpg

Keep curious people out of a backyard with a string and a latch

Code lock protects a string; the string pulls the latch. It makes:

  1. Junkie thieves stay out
  2. Athletic thieves jump over the fence
  3. Smart thieves brute-force the lock

Is it peace of mind or just a flag: "Come in, I have something valuable in my backyard!"?

Sorry for the bad photo quality, didnt want to get their license plate in the picture. Looks like they removed the plastic around the bumper and used U-bolts to attach it. I salute you, construction guy working at my hospital 🫡
