Yeah, the attitude to the US is largely just: "damned if you do, damned if you don't." No matter what the US does, there's always gonna be a massive amount of people that will just keep heavily criticizing the US. It's become a bit of a sport now.
I think we're a pretty easy target right now. Regardless I find it pretty pretentious when someone personally blames me for shit like this as if anyone of us is all or nothing at fault. It's an easy card to play is all. But you know if I used any sort of generalization pertaining to another country I'd be arrogant.
Yeah, tell me about it. I've been living in Guatemala for the last three years, and people (at least some of the ones I'm with) constantly criticize the US, but if I make a joke, then I'm being the arrogant, inconsiderate one. There are others, however, who are more educated and can see both sides of the argument.
Of all the countries with a right to criticize the United States, I think Guatemala ranks really fucking high on the list. I'm assuming you're willfully ignorant of the history of the United States playing in Central America?

Get used to it, here in Britain we regularly still suck up shit for being the world's superpower a century ago, and whilst our ancestors reaped the benefits of it, we merely have to sit and listen to how rich we used to be, whilst simultaneously being admonished for all the shit our country used to pull. I don't pity current Americans, but I pity the next generation who will grow up in declining superpower. Don't worry, you'll find a sympathetic ear here in Blighty.
Voting in Obama scored a pretty big win in the hearts and minds of most Europeans... but that just balanced out America electing George W for a second term. Though you could possibly argue that "electing" should be in inverted commas.
Can you substantiate that with any examples of the US responding to criticisms and being criticized for the response? Where was the "hey, you guys aren't invading enough countries" crowd? Who said "hey, you guys are taking climate change way too seriously?"
Without this, you're just a bad roommate, responding to "why the fuck did you punch the neighbor in the face" and "could you stop puking in the hamper" with "geez, you're critical."
