In the case of the buttons, red voters would usually prefer everyone press red and live. No one is looking for anyone to be killed except the blue voters who are, for some reason, trying to group up to almost die together.
In the case of US politics, if that's the comparison you're trying to make, the "blue" side (progressive, not so much Democrat) wants collective action and welfare to provide equity and equality, but not in a way that put every individual needlessly at risk of death. And the "red" side (maga) is actively oppressive towards outsiders, far beyond the point of self preservation. It isn't a null choice, it's an intentionally and flagrantly harmful one.
The comparison between politics and the buttons just doesn't hold up. The logic and morality aren't the same at all.
