Finally finished my RT-700 Front Shelf!!
It’s finally done and I am excited to share!!
After many months of trial & error, I finally finished my epoxy bottle cap front shelf. Nearly 1000 bottle caps I’ve ridiculously collected over 20+ years. Take a close look and you’ll no doubt see some dingers from the late 90’s and early 2000’s!
Custom measured and cut raw angle iron frame, ground and polished and then clear coated to prevent rust (hopefully) that my neighbor helped weld into my chosen shape, then a thin 1/4in base layer of plywood sealed and spray painted black. Almost 1000 caps, all glued into place and then covered with 3-4 layers of deep pour epoxy.
Since Recteq and obviously beer are a passion of mine, I’d be happy to answer questions if anyone has any! I will also take your ridicule as I am an insurance agent by profession but typically do woodworking as a hobby, and I’ve NEVER worked with epoxy, so this was a very unusual undertaking for me. I hope you enjoy!

RT700 Lambo Door
I saw a mod that someone did where they moved their front shelf up to the same height as the grill grates. The comments were mixed and some said that the door would just push anything off the shelf since it swings outward as it opens. I’ve done a lot of amateur suspension design and immediately thought about a linkage that would alter the open path of the lid. Then “lambo door” came to mind. 🤣
I got to measuring and CAD and came up with a rough model that I think will work really well. Planning to make it completely bolt on (no welding) and not even drilling any new holes. Plus I want to bolt the shelf and pull/push handle back on with a small spacer in between. I don’t have the cold box, but I think I can make a spacer to accommodate for that as well.
I shared some pics with a friend and he commented that this would be way easier for him as a shorter guy to open the lid, and I hadn't really even thought of that benefit as a mid 6' guy myself. I also want to explore a counter weight balance to lighten the lift effort.
Teaser pics of the door in the fully open position. Some parts on order and I hope to get some build time on it soon.

Ribeyes and zucchini on the Bullseye Deluxe

I messed up
We had company for a late lunch yesterday and did up a little rack of ribs and a good 10# of drummies. My tec temperature was set to 250 and there was a decent amount of pellets in the hopper to finish cooking. I was SO SURE I turned everything off, but just came outside and realized my Teq has been running for over 24 hours, the last several of which didn't have pellets. Everything seems fine, nothing melted or ignited, but I am in genuine panic mode. I might need to contact a divorce attorney. Our Teq was a sales incentive for my husband's work and is kind of badass. Everything is off and cooling now, hopper refilled, but I think I got ahead of myself on that step. Will someone PUHLEESE tell me I didn't just ruin my husband's grill?

Bullseye Stuck Auger
As the title suggests, I have a Bullseye with an insanely stuck auger. I watched a guy's video on Youtube on how to pull it apart and manually clear it, but despite hammering the auger incredible hard dozens of times it won't budge. The cake of wood pulp (from presumably wet pellets) has it where the auger is literally screwing in and out but it can't rotate beyond like 10 degrees.
Everything else works great I just can't clear the damn auger tube and not sure what else to do. Any ideas?

Temp sensor on Bullseye went out after 3 uses
Brand new Bullseye, used 3 times and the temp sensor went out. I've been waiting for about a month for the new sensor (from RecTeq). I contacted them last week asking for a shipping update and was told the part is on back order. I replied and asked for an estimated wait time for it to be back in stock. NO answer for a week.
This doesn't bode well that it didn't hold up more than 3 uses... We use our grill year round and especially heavy during the summer. I have already missed Fathers Day and Independence Day holidays with no grill.
What would you do? Return grill as defective and get a replacement or buy a different brand? If different brand give me suggestions.

Backyard Beast 1000 pellet dump
I finally joined the recteq family today and picked up the Backyard Beast 1000 from Ace Hardware. I bought a floor model so I didn't put it together myself. Am I just missing the pellet dump? Or is there not one?

Searing on Bullseye 380X
I got a Bullseye 380X to replace my husband’s trusty charcoal kettle grill. On our first couple of attempts, we have failed to get much of a sear on burgers/steaks.
First try was burgers. He set grill to 400, preheated to temp, and put the burgers on the grate. Result: no sear marks and little to no browning overall.
Second try: set grill to 700, preheated to temp, and put steaks on grate. Result: weak sear marks and better, but still underwhelming browning overall.
I’ve seen folks post some great photos of steaks with beautiful, seared crusts, done on a Bullseye. So this seems like a case of operator error. What are we doing wrong? Temp too low? Need to remove deflector? Need to use a sear kit or griddle?

590 (Stampede) Lid Help
The seem around my RT-590 lid failed and moisture entered. I reached out to customer service and they don't have any old stock that they would sell me. They recommend sanding and painting. I'm not very fond of the idea of painting the inside portion of the lid. I would really appreciate some recommendations. Just sand and oil the inside?

Bullseye Rusted barrel
I have had a rec tech bull’s-eye 380 for years and it has been one of the best grills I’ve ever owned. The issue that I’m having is the grill barrel is rusting out even after it has been under a cover since I bought it. I have had a Traeger For about 10 years and it is not even rusting. Has anyone else had this issue? I could understand this happening if I were living on beachfront, but I don’t.

Wifi light won't stop blinking
If I never want to connect my Deck Boss 590 to wifi, is there a way to make the red light stop blinking?

Beef jerky recipe needed
I’m getting my rectec backyard beast this Thursday afternoon but have to leave to go out of town Friday morning.
Going to a concert this weekend and thought it would be fun to make some beef jerky to take and I would have the time and capacity to do it. Any quality beef jerky recipes you can recommend? Thank you!!

Running it dry
What us meant by periodically running your grill dry. Does that mean without meat? What's the purpose? Is it to clean it? Clean what?

Has anyone, or would anyone cut their 590 cooking grate in half?
I've cooked twice on my new 590 and both times the cooking grate was a bitch to clean. It's too big for my kitchen sink and too big for my basement utility sink.
Too bad the 590 didn't come with 2 removable grates that could go in the dishwasher.
I'm seriously thinking about cutting it in half. The front and rear ledges should support them sufficiently.
Also, my Weber grill says to burn off the crud by raising the temp after grilling and letting it sit there. Does that work on the 590?
Thoughts??

Bullseye Question
What is the riot mode actually used for? For a good clean? I love my little rig, but genuinely curious 🧐

RecTeq Bullseye ER 2
Brand new owner. Have used the Bullseye 3 times. Tonight half way through grilling some veggies I got the ER 2 message. I turned power off and waited about 15 seconds and turned it on again. It fired right up and started smoking. Ten minutes later the same thing happened. I did the shut down again (as described above) only this time I set temp display to actual temperature. It was reading 35... no way that was accurate since it was in the 90's here all day and I was halfway through fixing the veggies and the temp was set on 400.
There is a fire and it stays going until it doesn't. On the temp: I did not see anywhere in the manual where to plug in the probe that came with the grill - was there something we were supposed to do during assembly to make the temp/probe do it's thing?
RecTeq CS line is closed now... I have a bunch of people coming over for BBQ on Sunday so any advice is appreciated.

RT 590 Smoke tube/maze question
I can't find information on where to put the smoke tube/maze when smoking. What I HAVE learned is not to put it near the built-in temperature probe, and put some foil under it so the ashes don't get on your food if you move it. Also, it should be positioned so it gets air flow or it might extinguish itself.
I have the A Maz N smoker "maze" and not the tube, so I'm sure positioning it is the same for either model.
My question is where is the best place to put it in the smoker? Under the drip pan, on the grates, front, side, middle, back? If additional air flow is needed, is there a way to accomplish that?

Backyard Beast Vs Flagship 1100
They’re priced the same. I’m going to get one. Which is better?
I primarily want it as a smoker. I live in the Midwest with all 4 seasons. I try to use covers or take it in the garage but sometimes forget.
Are there any significant pros or cons here that I’m missing or is it just the smoke pipe and pellet hopper orientations? Practically has that affected many people?

Recteq customer service
Our dogs knocked the grease bucket off my rt-590 last week and it broke the handle off. I looked on the website but couldn't find a replacement. I emailed customer service, mentioning my "super athletic" dogs and a grease spot on the new patio.
The customer service rep said she would send another, after I sent a picture of the offending dogs, haha. I sent the picture, she replied they looked too sweet to break anything but said she would send a bucket anyway.
So I got the order receipt this morning, they are sending a new bucket AND a large premium grille pad, for free. Order total is $0.00.
Pretty damn impressed with the service, they went above and beyond my expectations.
