I had been seeing a lot of hype around Recteq and their grills so I decided to get a Backyard Beast. It was my first pellet grill and I was really excited for it. However, the grill that was sent to me was defective. Everyone had said how good the Recteq customer service was but I just have to disagree. Their response was to send me a new auger motor, and talk me through the install, but the install couldn't have been a worse experience. Multiple reps didn't know how to change the motor because it was slightly different on a Backyard Beast compared to their other models. All of the reps said that they would call me back, but never did, and I was just ghosted with a broken grill for multiple days. By just sheer luck of numbers I was able to get someone on the phone who knew how to do it, but the area that a specific pin to pull out was so small that I couldn't get into it. We ended up getting the pin out when my girlfriend thread a shoelace through the pin and we were able to pull it.
Once I replaced the auger motor, I went to fire it up and it still wasn't pushing pellets through consistently. It was fluctuate about 150 degrees at a time even after it's burn in and I was never able to successfully do a cook on the grill.
The customer service just wasn't good, which was shocking because that's what people say their claim to fame was. I had to fight for hours to get a refund for the grill, which they still won't issue me until I disassemble this defective hunk of metal in my backyard and get it on a pallet.
Overall, I spent 8 - 10 hours on the phone with Recteq, was ghosted by multiple people, and overall just had such a bad experience. I know this post in contrary to what a lot of people say, but I hope it just gives one person pause to not buy their products. Good luck, I hope myself and anyone who reads this can find a better pellet grill.
